'Little Aciloyada'

nti-Semitic Split Wide
n Alabama 'White Council'

Huge crowds, estimated at
more than 100,000 persons,
gathered in Jerusalem recent-
ly to witness the traditional
children's Purim carnival and
parade, called "'Little Adloy-
ada," which this year also
commemorated the economic
•
advances being made by the
country with the assistance of
investment capital derived
from State of Israel Bonds.
The parade, • which lasted al-
most two hours, consisted of
more than 4,000 children who
danced, sang and clowned in
appropriate costumes, and 130
floats, many of which featured
products grown and manufac-
tured with Israel Bond aid.
Shown above is the parade's
most popular float, entitled
"Vision of the End of Da.ys,"
•depicting Israel's Prime Min- -
ister Ben-Gurion arm-in-arm
with Egypt's Premier Nasser,
the expressions on their faces
frozen in a perpetual smile of
friendship and understanding.

Scientists Predominate
at Yeshiva University
Fifty-six per cent of the stu-
dents at Yeshiva University's

College of Arts and Sciences are
science majors, it was reported
by Prof. Morris Silverman, reg-
istrar;
He noted that almost 28% of
the college students are pre-
medical- and pre-dental majors,
indicating a hopeful trend by
the students as to their possi.
bility of entering these schools
after graduation.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., (JTA)
—A split between two branches
of the 'pro-segregation White
Citizens Councils here, in which'
anti,Semitism figures, has been
widened. Each of the groups an-
nounced separate mass meetings
tc, be held here. The latest de-
velopments in t h e internal
breach were characterized by
charges—and denials— of anti-
Semitism.
State Senator Sam Engel-
hardt, head 'of the Association
of Citizens Councils of Alabama,
said, "we can't fight everybody,"
and added his group is "not in-
terested in religious bias or pre-

judice, but is concerned only in
maintaining segregation." He
also expressed the fear that in-
jection of this issue might re-
sult in a situation where. "we

won't have anybody left to help
us."

FRANKFURT (JTA) — In a
confidential circular, the • state
government of Rhineland-Pala-
tina.te has decreed • that awards
and certificates of , merit will
not be conferred upon civil
servants who were ever con-
victed by an ordinary court or
by a Nazi "special court."

Alabama White Citizens Coun-
cils, which bars Jews from
membership, charged that the
injection of the anti-Semitic
issue was a stratagem used by
"anti-Christ, atheistic elements
with Communist ideologies who
are using the Negroes as a tool."
He said it was "demagogic" to
accuse his group of anti-Semi-
tism. His group's publication,
"The Southerner," is currently
attacking the "Hadassah News-
letter" for picturing a white
and Negro child together.
