BY THE OAK-WOODSER

As Passover time approaches,
we imagine many of you do a
fair amount of searching through
the days gone by, thinking of
happy memories which the on-
coming sedorim never fail to
bring about.
We, ourselves, always turn
back the pages of our memory
to the happy hours we spent
years ago when our grandfather,
departed now these many years,
occupied the place of importance
at the head of the seder table.
They are a little boy's memo-
ries, filled with pleasant asso-
ciations about one of the most
inspiring of the Jewish holidays
to children.
We recall the time we eag-
erly asked for a larger por-
tion of the bitter herbs, and
without batting an eye, and
with. only Mother offering a
protest, grandfather gave us ,
- a big piece of horseradish root.
As we put it in our mouth and
took a big bite, all eyeswefe
on us. And we remember the
good-natured laughter that
followed.
We remember, too, a young-
ster getting his first glass of
wine at the seder table, and
fighting. to stay awake during
the second portion of the ritual.
Looking back, we suppose we

Beth . Shalom School
Plans Model Sedorim

All classes of the Beth Sha-
lom Religious School will par-
ticipate in model sedorim dur-
ing regular sessions on March
25, in the Andrew Jackson
School.

and Leon Lucas, school direc-
tor, will conduct the "sedorim.
The congregation will hold
its third year book rally Sat-
urday evening, in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krauss,

weren't as interested in the pas-
sages from the Hagadah as in
what we might miss, in the
aside stories and talk and song
which was interspersed.
Then, too, we recall another
seder, years later, when the
true significance of Passover
was made clear. We thought we
understood the meaning of free-
dom, until Hitler's hordes broke
loose throughout Europe. Pass-
over, that year, developed a
meaning which we'll never for-
get.
Through the years, the holi-
day of freedom offers new in-
terpretations to each of us. Cer-
tain passages in the ritual
change from year to year. Per-
haps the real beauty of the Hag :
adah is, not in that it alone
tells a story, but that it is one
in which we share common' ex-
periences.
Each year, as we read next
year may we celebrate in Je-
rusalem, a thrill runs through
us, knowing that next year can
be this year if we so will it.
Jerusalem does exist; Israel
does exist; it is a land of our
own to Which we may go
should we so desire.
It is imperative this year, as
Israel faces its present crisis
that we are mindful of its strug-
gle and that we do all that we
can in our power to assist in its
survival.
This can well be our interpre-.
tation of the Hagadah as this
Passover season approaches.
