Pisgah Lodge Sets
Memorial Meeting
For Maimonides

A special community - wide
program, to which the public is
invited, is planned by Pisgah
Lodge of Bnai Brith in ob-
servance of the 750th anniver-
sary of the death of Moses
Maimonides.
The tribute to Maimonides,
who was a great Jewish phil-
osopher during the Middle Ages,
will be held at 8:30 p.m., Mon-
day, in the Labor Zionist Insti-
tute, 19161 Shaefer.
Dr. Ira Altshuler, nationally-
prominent neuropsychiatrist,
will discuss "Maimonides the
Physician," and Rabbi Jacob E.
Segal will speak on "Maimo-
nides the Physician of the Jew-
ish Soul."
Cantor Nicholas Fenakel will
chant the El Mole Rachamin
and other selections from the
Psalms.
Isadore Perlman, president of
Pisgah Lodge, announced that
members of the Maimonides
Medical Society and Detroit
Philosophical Society have
been invited as special guests.
Rudolph . Meyersohn is pro-
gram chairman of the Maimon-
ides Memorial Meeting.

Blood Rally Set
For Two Nights

The Greater Detroit Bnai
Brith Men's and Women's Coun-
cils announce their second Blood
Bank rally of the year on Mon-
day and Tuesday night.
The decision to hold the rally
for two nights was made so
that the hundreds who were
turned away at the last rally
in January can be properly ac-
commodated.
The Monday night rally will
take place at Beth Aaron Syna-
gogue, 18000 Wyoming. Tues-
day night the rally will be held
at Temple Israel, 17400 Mander-
son. Both are from 6 to 12 p.m.
Men and women of Bnai
Brith are urged to turn out in
large numbers in order to re-
plenish the bank, which is at
a very low point.

Center Girls' Group
Sets Bake Sale March 25

Sirells, a Jewish Community
Center Teen-Age girl's club,
will hold a bake sale from 2 to
5 p.m., March 25, in the lounge
of the Davison branch.
Cookies, brownies, cupcakes,
taffy apples, and layer cakes
will be on sale. Proceeds will be
donated to the Allied Jewish
Campaign.
Gail Love is president of the
Sirella, Judy Dubrowsky is in
charge of the bake sale and
Lorraine Ernst is the club's
leader.

Mrs. Al Diamond Wins
Cancer .. Fighter Honors

Mrs. Al Diamond, of 3041
Boston, has been unanimously
selected by the City of Hope
Cancer Fighters as its "Cancer
Fighter of 1955."
At a recent meeting, in rec-
ognition of this tribute, Mrs.
Stanley Oschin, president, be-

years, Mrs. Diamond's principal
work for the Cancer Fighters is
the acknowledgement of con-
tributions to the organization.
In one peak month, Mrs. Dia-
mond mailed out 500 items of
correspondence.
The first life member of the
chapter, Mrs. Diamond visited
the institution in Duarte, Calif.,
in 1954, and on her return gave
a d'escription of the center and
its work.
She is also active in the or-
ganization's dramatic group and
bowling league.

Center Cagers Push
Play-off Schedule

The outcome of the Class A
and B title playoffs remained in
doubt this week, following some
startling upsets in the elimina-
tion rounds.
Hitherto unbeaten Alpacas
suffered a big defeat at the
hands of Regals, 31-20 in the
Class A race. Wagners also is
vying for the title.
Zussman AZA earned a Class
B playoff position with an un-
expected win over the second
place Nationals, 44-36. Other
Class B - qualifiers are league-
leading Trojans, Nationals and
Del Monicos.
The Class C playoffs will be-
gin on Wednesday, with Aces,
Imperials and Flashes assured of
berths, while fourth spot is yet
to be decided. Either Dukes or
Spitfiers will quilify_ for the
playoff series.

Mrs. Surchin, one of Canada's
long-time Zionist leaders, was
national vice-president of the
Pioneer Women of Canada, of
which she is a founder. She has
been active also in Labor Zion-
ist movements.
She was elected president of
Pioneer Women at the organiza-
tion's 14th biennial convention
in Toronto last year.
In addition to the appearance
of Mrs. Surchin, the Sharona
Chapter Choral "Group will en-
tertain. The public is invited to
attend.

Music Study Club Sets Special Event

Music Study Club will meet
at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the
Davison Jewish Center for a
dessert luncheon and program.
Mrs. Joseph M. Markel, pro-
gram chairman, announces that
in celebration of the fourth an-
niversary of the establishment
of the Dora and Julius Green
Music for Israel Fund, Mrs. H.
Goldman, chairman of the day,
has planned a special program.
Marguerite Kozenn Chajes,
co-chairman and advisor of the
fund, will speak on • "Music in
I s r a e 1," explaining how the
Green Fund has aided in its
development.
Wyn Landis, coloratura so-
prano, will sing a group of Is-

raeli songs, and Fred Kendall,
radio station WJR tenor, will
present a variety of songs by
Massenet, Brahms and Mozart.
Also to be featured will be
Harvey Siegal, Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra violinist, and
concertmaster of the Center
Symphony Orchestra. Lillian
Zeilman, a past president of
Music Study Club, will be at
the piano.
Mrs. Sidney Jackson, presi-
dent, urges members to bring
their friends to the program.

Set Final Oneg Shabbat

Mrs. George R. Liss, presi-
dent of the Adas Shalom Sister-
hood, announces that the final
Oneg Shabbat of the season, will
be held at the home of Mrs.
