"Work for Eretz Israel in faith
and do not give away to fear,
ki imanu el—for God is with
us," Dr. Pinkhos Churgin, presi-
dent of Bar-Ilan University of
Israel admonished a group of
100 Detroit Mizrachi leaders and
their friends, at a dinner given
in his honor at Rainbow Ter-
race on Monday evening.
Dr. Churgin said he looked
with confidence "to a great
future in Israel." "Do not lose
heart," he advised the group.
"There is going to be a glor-
ious- future, as we were pro-
mised by God. The enemies
will not eliminate Israel.
Young and old will fight for
her preservation."
Here for a brief visit, before
returning to Israel to guide the
destinies of the new Mizrachi-
sponsored university, Dr. Chur-
gin outlined t h e Bar - Ilan
achievements thus far. He said
the 100 students, forming the
first university class, are fitting
in admirably into the plans for
welding Torah with science.
"Bar-Ilan," he said, "will give
the young an opportunity to de-
velop their talents. No students
will be turned away because
they have no money. We will
maintain them:"
"At Bar-Ilan," he added, "we
may have a science wedded to
a morality that will come to
itself fully. A new type of
leadership will emerge from the
students at Bar-Ilan. Our uni-
versity will make a uniquely

Jewish contribution to the
world."
Abe Nusbaum, who opened
the meeting as chairman of
the Detroit Bar-Ilan Commit-
tee, expressed the gratitude
of Mizrachi to Dr. Churgin
for his contributions to Jewry
—previously as president of
Yeshiva University in New
York and now of Bar-Ilan
University.
Philip Stollman, president of
Detroit Mizrachi, presided. Dr.
Churgin was introduced by Rab-
bi Isaac Stollman. An address
of welcome was delivered by
Irving Schlusseil in behalf of
the Zionist Council. Rabbi Yaa-
cov Homnick welcomed Dr.
Churgin in behalf of his former
students at Yeshiva University.
The dean of Detroit's Orthodox
rabbis, Rabbi Moses Fischer, led
in the Benschen.
