Coureyitch's Encyclopedic Two-Volume Work
Road to Peace and Democracy
Boris Gourevitch, vice-presi-
dent of the Union for the Pro-
tection of the Human Person,
with offices at 100 W. 80th St.,
New York, calls his two-volume
work, "The Road to Peace and
to Moral Democracy," "an en-
cyclopedia of peace." It is ex-
actly that. It is a remarkably
scholarly analysis of the world's
major problem: peace; and it is
encyclopedic: the first volume
has 1080 pages and the second
volume 1540 pages.
Covering' the entire world
scene, Mr. Gourevitch, whose
study was published by Inter-
national Universities Press, be-
lieves that new trends in phys-
ics and biology lead us to an
idealistic moral philosophy. He
points out that a synthesis of
philosophy and science can be
realized in the spirit _ of the
ethical sense of our cosmic des-
tiny, and that, in this way, the
morals of Christendom, of the
prophets of Israel, and of the
idealist schools of Humanism
become identical with the new
philosophic religion of the mod-
ern freethinkers.
In a preface, the Rev. Henry
Smith Leiper expresses the be-
lief "that the use of this mate-
rial will be of significance in
preparing those concerned with
human rights to make the larg-
est possible contribution to the
building of a new world order
on a democratic basis." Evalu-
ating the groundwork laid by
Judeo-Christian though t, he
states th'at "more and more in-
stances come to light of amaz-
ing agreements .among Catho-
lics, Protestants and Jews" in
the advancement of human
rights.
In a foreword, Prof. Robert
M. Maclver calls attention to
Mr. Gourevitch's deep study of
the subject, his envisioning "the
hour of destiny," his recogni-
tion of "the obstacles besetting
the establishment of an inter-
national order," and his "keep-
