'Sabbath Majesty'
Carta Slated

Under the direction of Cantor
Nicholas. Fenakel, Adas Shalom
Synagogue and its ' affiliate
groups will present an original
cantata, "The Majesty of the
Sabbath," written by Joseph
Edelman, at 8:30 p.m., March
11, in the main congregation
auditorium.
Soloists, besides the cantor,
will be Esther Gorbeck, soprano,
and Sidney Raznick. Narrating
the story will be Harry Gold-
stein, Al Baunin, Harry Weiss,
Mrs. Ruth Miller, Mrs. Jules
Kamen and Gertrude Strauss.
The synagogue's Symphonic
Ensemble, directed by Zinovi
Bistritzky, asistant concertmast-
er of the Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra, will play Haydn's Sym-
phony No. 92, Cherubini's Over-
ture and will accompany the
cantata.
Many parents, who are mem-
bers of the Adas Shalom Choir
and the ' Sisterhood Choir will
be performing with their chil-
dren who are members of the
Youth Choir.

Name Committee
To Greet Dr. Churgin
On Visit to Detroit

Abraham Nusbaum will head
the reception committee of the
Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan
University, which will welcome
Dr. Pinkhos Churgin, president
of the institution at Ramat Gan,
Israel, when he arrives here
next week.
Making his first visit to De-
troit since assuming his new
post, Dr. Churgin will be guest
at a reception-dinner in his
honor at 6:30 p.m., Monday, at
Rainbow Terrace.
Participating in the program,
arranged by the Mizrachi Or-
ganization of Detroit, will be
t h e Michigan academicians'
committee of professors from
Wayne University and the Uni-
versity of Michigan.
Committee members assisting
Nusbaum include Max Stoll-
man, Phillip Stollman, Irving
W. Schlussel, David I. Berris,
Isador Muskovitz and other
friends of Bar-Ilan.
Dr. Churgin, a renowned
writer, scholar and educator,
was formerly dean of the Teach-
ers' Seminary at Yeshiva Uni-
versity in New York. He was
the principal organizer of Bar-
Ilan, which opened its doors in
August of last year.
Dr. Churgin will be in Detroit
for only a day on his tour of
. the country. Friends and spon-
sors of Bar-Ilan are invited to
attend. There will be no solici-
tations.

Rabbinical Council Meets
March 13 in Detroit

The Midwestern Region of the
Rabbinical Council of America
will convene its spring confer-
ence on March 13, in Detroit.
Morning and afternoon ses-
sions will be held at Cong. Bnai
David, and will include a series
of seminars to be given by
local rabbis and representatives
from Chicago and Cleveland.
The executive dinner session
will be addressed by Rabbi Leon
Stitskin, of Yeshiva University,
New York. The leaders will
meet for the concluding session
in the new Beth Abraham Syna-
gogue.

Sunday Nighters Dance
Is for 'Young at Heart'

Sunday Nighters of the Jew-
ish Community Center will hold
a Young-at-Heart Leap Year
Dance at 9 p.m., Sunday, in the

pears at Masonic Temple for
two performances only on

he will bring with him one
Steinway piano, one meander-
ing pooch and the most stag-
gering collection of facts and

Broadway stage. The not-so-
melancholy Dane will have
completed an unbelievable 107
weeks at the Golden Theater,
during which time he, missed
one matinee performance of a
grand total of 849. That did not
include charity performances.

The annual banquet of the
Vladimiritzer Emergency Relief
Organization will be held this
