All Faiths Join in Honoring David A. Croll Lectures by Yurika Mann Feature
On His Elevation to Canadian Senatorship Art Exhibition at Temple Israel

A distinguished gathering of
Christians and Jews, represent-
ing the Canadian government,
the City of Windsor and the
W i n d s o Jewish community,
joined last Sunday in honoring
David A. Croll, former member
of the Canadian Parliament and
former Mayor of Windsor, on
the occasion of his becoming a
member of the Canadian Senate.
Scores of engraved resolu-
tions were given Senator Croll,
and spokesmen at the dinner
in his honor, at the Prince Ed-
ward Hotel, Windsor, recalled
his accomplishments in the
army offices he has held.
Under the toastmastership
of Milton Sumner, Windsor
Jewish community leader, ad-
dresses were delivered by
Mayor Michael Patrick of
Windsor, U. S. Senator from
Michigan Pat McNamara,
Canada's Minister of Health
and Welfare and Canadian
delegate to the United Na-
tions, Col. William Grieseng-
- er, Ontario Minister of Public
Works, and others.
The occasion marked the of-
ficial presentation, by Senator
Croll, of the charter from the
national organization to the
newly-formed David A. Croll
'
Chapter of Bnai Brith Young
Adults—co-sponsor of the event
with the City of Windsor—and
the observance of Brotherhood
Week.
Miss Marilyn Miller, presi-
dent of the newly-f or me d
chapter named in Senator
Croll's honor, greeted the gath-
ering and presented Mr. Croll
with a plaque "signifying the
chapter's relationship with him."
Ovations were given at the
dinner to Senator Croll's
mother, Mrs. Hillel Croll, who
occupied a seat of honor on
the dias next to her son. The
speakers referred to the es-
teem in which Mrs. Croll and
her late husband were held
by their fellow-citizens, and
to their devoted efforts which
has resulted in two sons hav-
ing become barristers, two
sons being physicians, another
a dentist and a daughter a
dental nurse.
Mayor Patrick, in his official
welcome, which was followed
by the presentation of a gift to
Senator Croll by the City of
Win d s o r, congratulated Mr.
Croll on being named a Senator
of Canada. He said Mr. Croll
showed courage and executive
ability, bringing out his humani-
tarianism during the depression
of the late 1920s.
Col. Griesinger recalled the
events of 1939 when Mr. Croll,
although he was serving as
Mayor of Windsor and as a
member of the Legislative As-
sembly in Toronto, enlisted in
the Essex Scottish ranks as a
buck private, rising to the rank
of Colonel. "If he stayed • in
service, he would be a general,
because there are several Jew-
ish generals in the British
army," his former army chief
commented.
In an impressive address,
in which he congratulated Mr.
Croll on being the first Jew-
ish Senator in Canada, Mr.
Martin traced the history of
the Crolls' settlement in
Canada, from Russia and

lands of dispersion to the Jewish homeland. It has
added millions of dunams of land to the possession

gated the desert; drained the swamps. It has restored
the land without a people to the people without a land.
But much more remains to be done in Israel.
