Thag Ha-Movement` March 18

Labor Zionist Institute Dedication
Planned; . 3-Floor Building Described

Elaborate plans are being
made for the formal dedication
of the Labor Zionist Institute,
on Schaeffer, north of Seven
Mile, at a victory dinner of the
Labor Zionist movement. The
event, set for March 18, is being
called "Chag Ha-Movement"-
the festival of the LZOA.
The Labor Zionist Institute
has three floors for a total
square footage of 21,000. The
basement houses the arts and
crafts room equipped for use
by Habonim Youth: Referred
to as the recreation floor, this
department has been set up to
enable Habonim to plan their
preparatory activities prior to
spending a year in Israel.

On the first floor, every
branch of the movement and
every agency in LZOA will be
provided with office space. The
largest office has been assigned
to Histadrut campaign. • There
Will be offices for Pioneer
Women, Farband City Commit-
tee, Farband Camp and LZOA.
The United Jewish Folk
Schools, however, have their
own offices on the second floor,
where classes already are being
conducted. A nursery has been
added to the classes ' hitherto
conducted by the school.
The light and airy auditorium,
with a seating capacity of 600,

is one of the chief attractions
of the, building. It has a stage
suitable for all types of pro-
ductions and public meetings.
There is an adjoining kitchen
to provide for banquets to be
held in that hall.
A number of smaller meeting
rooms will provide facilities for
gatherings for all affiliated
groups in the Labor Zionist
movement. Parking space is
available.
Morris L. Schaver is president
of the new LZOA building cor-
poration.

ADL Denounces Recent Statement
Of American Friends of Middle East

NEW YORK (JTA)—A state-
ment by American Friends of
the Middle East that Arab
League nations "may be goad-
ed" into making reprisals
against their Jewish nationals
if Israelis persist in "equating
Israelis and Jews," was de-
nounced by the Anti-Defama-
tion League of Bnai Brith.
The statement which was re-
leased by William A r c h e r
Wright, Jr., executive secretary
of AFME, was made in a de-
fense of recent anti-Semitic
speeches e by Farid Zeineddine,
Syrian ambassador to the United
States, and Mohammed Fadhil
Jamali, chairman of the Iraqi

"We have had major success
in getting the Arabs to use the
term 'Israelis' rather than 'Jews'

of Israel," Wright said in his
statement. "I regret that we

ting the Israelis to do the same.

and tartly suggested: "Why not
let New York be a homeland
for the Jews?" Mr. Jamali simi-
larly charged that American
Jews gave their first loyalty to
a foreign state and not the
United States.
Both speeches evoked a for-
mal protest from the Anti-Defa-
mation League to the State De-
partment. Wright denied that
the speeches were anti-Semitic
or that the Arab diplomats had
acted with "impropriety."
They had, he argued, "not
said anything that might be
construed as an attack against
American Jews as such "but
were attacking "political Zion-
ism."

Baked Hamantaschen
Featured at Barton's

The traditional Purim custom
of sending confections and
baked goods to the poor and to
one's friends goes back to about
350 B. C. E. when Purim or-
iginated in Shushan, the capital
of Persia. The custom is known
as "Shalach Monos"—the send-
ing of presents.
Barton's contributes to the
observance of this custom with
what is perhaps the most ap-
propriate "Shalach monos" gift
of all, a new hamantaschen with
a rich and unusual filling of
bittersweet chocolate, toasted
nuts, orange peel, and raisins,
all finely ground and delicately
spiced.
Barton's presents their ham-
antaschen as a continental patis-
serie in a gift box, containing
ten large hamantaschen in an
assortment of three fillings —
chocolate nut, prune and poppy
seed.
