Community Groups Begin
Planning for Purim Events

Although • Purim, one of the
gayest of the Jewish festivals,
does not begin until Saturday
night, Feb. 25, several. groups
in the community have planned
their holiday celebrations for
this week.
Since, in Jewish tradition,
there may be no fast on the
Sabbath, the Fast of Esther will
be observed this Thursday. Be-
low are some of the events
which will occur in the com-
munity •in *celebration of the
holiday.
Bnai Moshe PTA
The seventh annual Purim
party of the Parent Teachers
Organization of the United He-
brew Schools branch will be
held. Wednesday evening, in
the synagogue social hall, ac-
cording to Mrs. Joseph Young,
president. -
Games, prizes, refreshments
and entertainment will be fea-
tured. Tickets are available - at

Adas Shalom PTO
This Plihursday, between 4
and 7 p.m., Adas Shalom Syn-
agogue will be the scene of the
PTO's annual Purim Carnival.
Mrs. Martin Share is. chairman,
and co-chairmen are Mesdames
Morris Zalenko and Jack Hoff-
man.
Children will came in cos-
tume, and prizes will be award-
ed to each of them. Games,
prizes and refreshments are

The Young - Married Couples
Club is planning a Purim pro-
gram on Wednesday evening,
in the synagogue board room.
Louis Haber, Adas Shalom_ ex-
ecutive director, will be guest

A table of traditional foods
and symbols for the holiday
will be set up, and Haber will
explain the significance of all
in his talk. The dramatic group
will join with the Hebrew ed-
ucational group to present "Ha-
man, the Would-Be Killer."
There also will be Purim songs.

Scout Troops Honored
At Late Service Today

Adas Shalom Synagogue will
hold late sabbath services at
8:30 p.m., today, which will be
dedicated to the Boy and Girl
Scout troops affiliated with the
congregation. Scouts will par-
ticipate in special prayers and
responsive readings.
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will
preach the sermon on "Glimpses
from the 'Eternal Light'," por-
traying episodes from recent
broadcasts of the popular radio
series.
Cantor Nicholas Fenakel and
the Youth Choir will chant the
services, which are to be fol-
lowed by an oneg shabbat.
Community singing and Israeli
dancing led by youth groups
will be featured.

Levenberg and Kaufman

Members of Cong. Beth Tik-
vah will honor Mr. and Mrs.
Abe Levenberg and Mr. and
Mrs. Jacob Kaufman at their
