Robert 'Marwil Ma rks 75th Birthday To Make Purim
Appeal for JNF
Feb. 20; Continues Zionist Activity

Jacob A. Citrin, of the 35-
year-old Citrin-Kolb Oil Co.,
this week announced the ac-
quisition of Nathan Kolb's in-
terest in the firm, which now
reverts to the sole ownership
of the Citrin family.
Presently a partner in the
company is Martin Citrin, who
purchased h i s grandfather's,
interest in the firm some time
ago. Although 30, Barney Citrin,
the grandfather, still is active.
in the company.
Citrin's other two sons, Toby,
a senior at Harvard University,.
and Robert, 13, will have their
interests held in trust, pending
completion of their educations.
Citrin, in-, making the an-
nouncement, said that Kolb's
withdrawal will not change the
policies or operation of the
company. which is Michigan's
oldest distribUtor of Standard
Oil products.
The business began in 1920
in a one-pump filling station
operated by Jacob and Barney
Citrin on Linwood and Pingree.
The company presently owns
two bulk plants and .supplies
150 retail service stations.

Robert Marwil, who was born
in Detroit, Feb. 20, 1881, and
who is among this city's Zion-
ist pioneers, continues to give
Zionism his prior interest.
When he celebrates his 75th
birthday in the coming few
days, his chief concern remains
the security of Israel.
But Zionism is not his only
interest. He is deeply devoted

Yehudah, a Budget Planning
Commission has been formed
to insure the use of available
funds for the best educational
program possible.

shivah Beth Yehudah; Dan A.
Laven, chairman of the exec-
utive committee; Rabbi Leizer
Levin, chairman of the board
of education; Rabbi M. J. Wohl-
gelernter, executive president;
Rabbi J. Klein, executive direc-
tor; Dr. Max Kapusten, director
of the Hillel Foundation at
Wayne University; Max Car-
men, A. Kravitz, and Rabbi Jos
eph Elias, principal.

ROBERT MARWIL

served the Shaarey Zedek as
president and was on the syna-
gogue's board for many years.
He was an active member of
the boards of the Hebrew Free
Loan Association and the House
of Shelter, and served as pres-
ident of the United Hebrew
Schools and the Zionist Organ-
izaton of Detroit. He visited
Israel three times with Mrs.
Marwil.
He was chairman of the
Keren Hayesod (Palestine
Foundation Fund) campaign
here in 1923-24.
He was a member of the
Wayne County Board of Super-
visors for two years. On one
of his visits to Palestine he
represented the United Syna-
gogue of America on a mission
in behalf of Jerusalem's Jesh-
urun Synagogue.
Active in Allied Jewish Cam-
paigns and in Zionist under-
takings, he was a cap manu-
facturer for 25 years. In the

Plans for a city-wide recep-
tion honoring Dr. Samuel K.
Mirsky and Rabbi Morris Gold-
berg, who will be here on
March 4, are being made by a
special committee now in for-
mation.
Dr. Mirsky is professor of
rabbinics at Yeshiva University
and president of the Sura In-
stitute in Jerusalem. Rabbi
Goldberg is principal of Yeshiva
Netiv Meir, in Jerusalem, one
of the Bnai Akiva institutions
of learning.
Representatives of Mizrachi,
Hapoel Hamizrachi, Kvutzah
Ivrith and Young Israel at-
tended a parlor meeting at the
home of the Daniel Temchins,
at which initial plans were out-
lined.

newly-formed Committee for
Security and Justice in the
Middle East warned that the
furnishing of arms to Israel
would drive the Arabs "once
and for all into the outstretched

group, composed of 29 mem-

known anti-Zionists, urged the
chairmen of the Republican and
Democratic National Commit-
tees to agree on the removal of

Sets Children's Purim Party

A Purim party will be held
for the Evergreen Congregation
Sunday School children on Sun-
day, Feb. 26, at the Mettetal
School. Entertainment will in-
clude costumes for the children,
a magic show and.movies. Mrs.
Coleman Kovan is the Sister-
hood Youth chairman.

ORT Plans New School

GENEVA, (JTA)—The ,head-
quarters of the World ORT
Union announced the establish-
ment of an ORT Committee in
Spanish Morocco, composed of
leaders of the Jewish commun-
ity of Tetuan. The committee
will soon organize a vocational
school. in Tetuan where more
than 6,000 Jews reside, the an-
nouncement said.

Labor Zionist Institute
Sets March 'Festival Day'

Although the formal dedica-
tion of the new Labor Zionist
Institute Building, on Schaefer
and Seven Mile Rd., will be
marked by a special event on a
national scale later in the year,
the sponsors of the projcet will
hold a celebration dinner March
18, called "Festival Day", in
which members of the move-
ment and invited guests will
hear a specially prepared pro-
gram with a "surprise'? guest
speaker.

Saturday, Feb. 25, has been
designated as JNF Sabbath by
the Jewish National Fund Syn-
agogue Committee.
Sermons will be dedicated to
the work of Keren Kayemet
L'Israel that Saturday night
and Sunday, Feb. 26, when the
Purim Megillah will be read,
appeals will be more for Purim
gifts to the JNF.
The Synagogue committee, of
which Rabbi Jacob Chinitz,
Morris Dorn, Abe Nusbaum,
Max Stollman, Daniel Temchin
and Zvi Tomkiewicz, are co-
chairmen, has called upon the
rabbis and key people in syn-
agogues to help mobilize all re-
sources to make this year's
Purim appeal a success.
