celebration of the 30th
anniversary of Sholem Aleichem
Institute, its young adult group,
Chapter II; will present a cul-
tural program at 8:30 p.m.,
Feb. 15, at the Detroit Art In-
stitute.
Featured artists will be Can-
tor Saul Meisels, of Cleveland,
Vivian Goldstein, dramatist from
Chicago, and Mischa Mischa-
koff, concermaster of the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra.
Mischakoff came to Detroit
from New York where he
served for 15 years with the
NBC Symphony Orchestra,
under the baton of Arturo Tos-
canini. New York music critics
called him "Toscanini's third
hand."
His first job in this country
was with the New York Phil-
harmonic Orchestra. Arriving in
the U.S. in 1922, he auditioned
without an accompanist and
won over 500 contestants. Still
he almost loSt the chance, since
he did not 'leave his address.
Mischakoff has served as a
soloist on several concert tours,
and has appeared frequently as
a soloist in Detroit.
