80 Suburban Women Show
Faith in First Big Project

By the Oak-Woodser

The first of anything we try,
according to tradition, is always
supposed to be the hardest—and
until it's over and we look back
at its success we bear a burden
of apprehension.
At least, that's the usual ex-
perience.
In suburban Detroit • this
week, however, there are a
group of 80 women who, al-
though trying a first, not only
show a burst of enthusiasm but
are too busy working to be ap-
prehensive.
We refer to the Sisterhood of
the Young Israel Center of Oak-
Woods, which on Weldneiday
afternoon will be tackling its
initial major fund-raising proj-
ect—a donor luncheon at 12:30
p.m., at the Rainbow Terrace.
Mrs. David Feldstein, the don-
or chairman, and her co-chair-
man, Mrs. Max Raimi, along
with their 'committees, have
been bustling about the suburbs
for the- past several weeks in
preparation for the big event.
Only two and a half years
old, the Sisterhood was the first
affiliate group of 'Young Israel
Center. Up to this time they
. raised funds for the congrega-
tion through solicitation of the
membership and through a se-
ries of informal games pro-
grams.
Now foi their first major' ac-
tivity, the women seek to raise

funds to finish the kitchen of
the synagogue-. Its completion,
according to Mrs. Feldstein, is
imperative so that youngsters
attending the congregation's
Hebrew and religious schools
will be provided with proper
nutriments.
Women who attend will wit-
ness a showing of up-to-the:
minute fashions, with a special
feature being a parade of furs
by Wrubel and Kozin. Prizes
and an award ceremony also
are planned.
Among the participants will
be Mrs. Yaakov I. Homnick,
wife of Young Israel Center's
rabbi, who will deliver the in-
vocation, and - Mrs. Samuel
Glanz, the president, who will
extend a few words of greeting.
Mrs. Glanz is the Sisterhood's
second president, recently as-
suming her duties after the suc-
cessful administration of Mrs.
Beril Bloom, the affiliate's ini-
tial leader.

servations are available by call-
