S. Schiller, co-chairmen of the
Detroit Study Committee as-
sisting Dr. Engelman and his
Commission for the Study of
Jewish Education in the United
States, this week made public
a list of schools participating
in the Detroit study.
They also announced that
Herman Fisher has accepted
responsibility for the phase of
the study dealing with ascer-
taining from a large number
of community leaders their
views regarding Jewish educa-
tion.
He is recruiting a staff of
volunteers. to administer ques-
tionnaires to members of the
boards of dozens of community
organizations.
Schools participating in the
study are Adas Shalom, Ahavas
Achim, Beth Aaron, Beth
Abraham, Beth El, Bnai David,
Bnai Bnai Moshe,
Emanu-El, Gemiluth Chasso-
dim,. Israel, Shaarey Zedek,
Sholem Aleichem, United He-
brew Schools (all sev en
branches), United Jewish Folk
School, United Jewish High
School, Workmen's C-i r c 1 e
Sehool, Yeshivoth Beth Yehu-
dah and Young Israel Center
of Oak-Woods.. .
.The list includes congrega-
tional and communal schools,
and the study- will go from
kindergarten t h r o ugh high
School. The sampling will in-
clude children from all schools

as "Plant a Tree in Israel"
Month by the Jewish National
Fund Council.
The 15th of Shevat, Jan. 28,
is Hamisha Asar b'Shevat, or
Tu b'Shevat, the New Year of
the trees. In accordance with
tradition, every Jewish school
day, afternoon, and Sunday,
has undertaken a vastly ex-
panded Tu b'Shevat effort on
