ADAS SHALOM 7045 CURTIS Refreshments Served No Admission Charge Cabaret .- . JERUSALEM, ( J T A )—Mrs. Yehudi Menuhin, wife of the violinist, who is now appearing in Israel, has protested against Israel customs regulations which, she said, made it impossible for her to give -a gift 'to an Israeli without "victimizing" him. In a letter to the Jerusalem Post, Mrs. Menuhin said that "for- eigners such as myself, who have been, overwhelmed by the gen- erosity and hospitality of the people of this valiant and cour- ageous country" are being pre- vented from expressing their appreciation to their hosts be- cause of customs duties designed to protect local industry. Mrs. Menuhin expressed doubt that Israel was as yet so self- supporting that any item sent from abroad would compete with local producers. She asked whether the idea of "unsolicited gifts," such as that which exist- ed between England and the United States just after the war, might not be instituted in Israel. She added that the "human gesture" was being "legislated" out of existence by highly or- ganized sOcieties in the modern world.
