Histadrut Program

All 16- chapters of the Detroit
Council of Pioneer Women have
been working during the past
month to achieve a substantial
increase over previous years'
contributions to the annual His-
tadrut Campaign.
Working to further this goal
are Mrs. William Adler and Mrs.
Robert Wolok, Histadrut coor-
dinators for the Council, who
have called a dessert luncheon
at 12:30 p.m., Monday, at Holi-
day Manor.
Mrs. Ruth Kanter, chairman
of the event, announces that
Mrs. Esther Zackler, national
board member of Pioneer Wo-
men from Chicago, will be guest
speaker. Vocal entertainment
will be offered by Sharona
Chapter's vocal group. The pub-
lic is invited.
Working with Mrs. Adler and
Mrs. Wolok during the current
drive are Mesdames Ethel Krie-
ger, Rebecca Zwick, Jane Kell-
man,•Fay Dunn, Pearl Nuss-
baum, Ann Plotnick, Helen Tu-
kel, Pauline Stepak, Marian
Coleman; Thelma Solom, Sima
Wesley, Reba Coleman and
Helen Shrage.

Gubow Named
To MCSC Post

Lawrence G u b o w; 20100
Braile, was recently appointed
by Gov. G. Mennen Williams as
Commissioner of • the Michigan
Corporation and Security Corn-
mission.
Gubow, who has served with
the Commission since 1953, was
a deputy Commissioner until
the appointment.
Earlier this month, Gubow
was elected judge advocate of
the Allied Veterans Council of
Wayne County, an organization
consisting of delegates from 23
local veterans organizations.
Senior vice - commander o f
the Department of Michigan,
Jewish War Veterans, Gubow
has been a leader in local JWV
activities for several years.
Entering the army as an en-
listed man, he was discharged
in 1948 with the rank of -cap-
tain. In December, 1944, Gu-
bow was wounded and cap-
tured by the Nazis. - He re-
mained in prison camp until
liberation in May, 1945. He was
hospitalized in U.S. military
hospitals until 1948.
Gubow also is active in the
Jewish Community Council,
which he serves as a member
of the community relations
committee.
A native Detroiter, he gradu-
ated from Northern High School
and the University of Michigan
Law School. He was admitted
to the Michigan State Bar As-
sociation in 1950.

To Launch Israel Bond
Campaign at Parley Feb. 4, 5
The 1956 Inaugural Confer-
ence for Israel Bonds will be
Feb. 4 and 5, in Miami Beach,
to mark the - official launching
of the campaign for the sale of
State of Israel Development
Bonds.

`Congress Confidential' to Highlight
Women's Division Program for Week

The membership and commu-
nity has been invited to attend a
"Congress Reports Confidential"
meeting of the Detroit Women's
Division of American Jewish
Congress at 12:30 p.m.. Monday,
in the home of Mrs. Joseph Eder,
19375 Canterbury.
The program will preview a
new study group series. High-
light - of the afternoon will be a
panel discussion on "Crisis in
the Classroom." Mrs. Andrew
R. Vandenberg, president of the
Detroit Council of Parents and
Teachers, will be guest speaker,
while panelists include Mes-
dames Oscar Hertz, Daniel Rap-.
oport and Ben Snider.
Mrs. S. M. Israel, chairman of
Congress' commission on law
and social action, will chair the
meeting. She is assisted by Mes-
dames Irving Ackerman, Theo-
dore Rosen and Ben Snider.
Members of Northeast Chap-
ter will be entertained at a des-
sert luncheon meeting Wednes-
day afternoon, in the home of
Mrs: Samuel Barr, 1311 Bal-
moral. Mrs. Zeldon Cohen, pres-
ident, states that new members
will be introduced.
Northeast also is planning a
luncheon and games party at
12:30 p.m., Feb. 1, in the home
of Mrs: Al Padover, 19621 Can-
terbury. Proceeds will go to the
Louise Wise Center in Jerusa-

Northwest Chapter will pre-
sent Rabbi Minard Klein, of
Temple Beth El, at its luncheon
meeting Wednesday afternoon,

in the home of Mrs. Arnold
Frank, 18034 Oak Dr.
Mrs. Leopold J. Snyder, pro-
gram chairman, states that Rab-
bi Klein will speak on "The
Meaning of the Cross through
the Eyes of the Jew." Mrs. Har-
ry Shapiro will present a world
affairs report. Mrs. Melvin
Nord, president, invites guests
to attend.
"Jews in Latin America" is
the topic of a panel discussion to
be offered by Louise Wise Chap-
ter Wednesday, in the home of
Mrs. Joseph Greenberg, 13148
Talbot, Huntington Woods.
Following a 12:30 p.m. lunch-
eon, Mrs. J. Ross, chairman, will
introduce panel members, Mes-
dames M. Lieb, S. Clasky, L.
Kalish and DI Singer.

`Living with Older People' Is
Parkman Library Program

"Living with Older People"
will be discussed by the Rev.
Sheldon Rahn, director of so-
cial services for the Detroit
Council of Churches, at the
third program of the "Meeting
the Stress of Everday Life"
series sponsored by the Park-
man Branch Library, 1766 Oak-
man.
The film, "Steps of Age,"
also will be shown at the pro-
gram, to be held at 7:30 p.m.,
Thursday, in the library. There
is no charge for the series,
which is being given each
Thursday.

Institute Next Friday

The seventh annual Profes-
sional Staff Institute of the
Jewish Welfare Federation will
be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fri=
day, Jan. 27, at the Esther Ber-
man Branch of the United He-
brew Schools.
The theme of the Institute is
"The Impact of Changing Com-
munity Patterns Upon Federa-
tion Agencies and Institutions."
Ira I. Sonnenblick is Institute
chairman.

Bureau, is. chairman of the
morning session. Presentations
will be made by Albert Elazar,
United Hebrew Schools; Mrs.

noon session, at which presen-

Shaw, Jewish Community Cen-

confirmed that some Canadian
built planes are being shipped
to Egypt, but doubt was ex-
pressed that as many as 25 Ca-
nadian-built Harvard trainers
had been shipped from the
Canadian Car and Foundry
plant as charged recently in
Parliament.
