200 to Honor Julius Berman Sinai Hospital
On 75th Birthday, Saturday Names Appointees

The success story of a prom-
inent citizen who has been a
Detroiter 70 of his 75 years,
will be re-enacted when Julius
Berman is honored this Satur-
day night, at a dinner party
in the Sidney Hill Northwest
Club, by 200 relatives and
friends.
A specially-prepared "This Is
Your Life" sketch will trace
Mr. Berman's life as builder,
sportsman, military careerist
and an active leader in many
communal movements.
In his life story will be de-
picied his share , in mammoth
building projects, such as the
construction of the Wilshire
Hotel, the Lafayette Building,
Stimson Apartments, • Indian
Village Manor, the Hillcrest in
Lansing, the Commercial Ex-
change Building in Los An-
geles; and his most recent
building activities in Royal - Oak.
Allen Park, Berkley, Trenton,
Bloomfield Township and Ink-
ster.
Of special interest in Mr.
Berman's colorful life is that
he spent 21 years of his life in
the military service of our
country.

Windsor at the age of 4. A year
later, in 1886, his family settled
in Detroit.
At 8, he began to earn a liv-
ing as a newsboy. He also be-
came a clerk and general
handyman in a neighborhood
grocery store, and later was

1916 to 1919, he continued an
uninterrupted military career.
Ha commanded Co. C, 31st
Michigan Infantry, during the
Mexican border troubles. Dur-
ing World War I he was com-
manding officer of 402nd Aero
Squadron and was commanding
officer of Dorr Field, Arcadia,
Fla.
In the army;; he distinguished
himself as a boxertanct to this
day he takes regular punches
at the boxers' bag at _Sidney
Hill.

He was married, Nov. 4, 1904,
to the former Anna Esther
Moss, in whose memory the

agogue in numerous capaci=
ties. He is a 32nd Degree Ma--

Knights of Pythias, Odd Fel-
lows, Bnai Brith, Jewish War

of division chiefs in various
medical and surgical specialties
were announced this week by
Dr. Julien Priver, Sinai Hos-
pital executive director:
Drs. Eli M. Brown, anes-
thesia; Herbert J. Bloom, oral
surgery; Harry Z. Mellins,
radiology; Samuel S. Bernstein,
pediatrics; J. Edward Berk,
medicine; Maurice P. Meyers,
surgery; Lionel Braun, obstet-
rics and, gynecology; Sidney D.
Kobernick, laboratories; Harry
E. August; psychiatry; and I.
Jerome Hauser, eye, ear, nose
and throat.
Other appointments, as as-
sociate chiefs were Dr. Emil D.
Rothman, obstetrics and gynec-
ology; and Dr. Saul Sugar, eye,
ear, nose and throat (in charge
of opthamology.)
Two others named to the
non-professional staff are Mar-
lene L. Miller, as director of
volunteer service, and George
D. Benjamin, personnel direc-
tor.
Miss Miller, a native of Iron
Mountain, Mich., succeeds Don-
othy Lublin, who will resume
law practice, and Benjamin
succeeds Mit. Rosemont Cree-
don, who has left for Metro-
politan Hospital.
Sinai recently played host to
100 physicians--on its obstetrics
and gynecology visiting day,
which featured addresses by
Dr. A. F. Lash, of the Univer-
sity of Illinois, and Dr. Henry
C. Falk, of New York Univer-
sity.
