eran Pioneer Women's leader,
Chaya Polischuck. Her father,
Dr. I. S. Polischuck, is the
prominent Yiddish author and
- philosopher.
Mrs. Zackler spent the 'sum-
mer of 1954 in Israel where
she visited all installations of
Pioneer Women.
Also featured on the pro-
gram Will be a medley of se-
lections by the Sharona Chap-
ter Vocal Chorus. The public
is - invited to attend.
Waiter Bequeaths
$40,000 to Israel
JERUSALEM (JTA) — A
Chicago waiter, a non-Jew,
has named Israel as his
beneficiary for a bequest
of $40,000, it was revealed
when the Israel governmnt
reported on contributions it
has received from abroad,
many from non-Jews.
The government refused
to divulge the name of the
waiter because he is still
alive. The Treasury has been
told that he still works two
or three days a week so as
to earn enough to live on
without having to touch the
$40,000.

Back to school, last Tuesday,
students once again 'got into the
swing of things. One of the
first things that greeted us was
the announcement of the win-
ning Student Council officers:
President, Nan Scholnick; vice-
president, Dick Pollinger; Sen-
ate secretary, J a n et Bing;
House secretary, Myra Ern-
stein; treasurer, Michael Fried-
man.
Seniors have been kept busy
since their return to school.
Last Friday was their "color
day," a tradition established
last year. All ,12As wore rib-
bons (in their color-royal "blue),
with stars adorning the top.
These stars represent. their
prom, to be called "Starlight
Whirl." It will be held Jan. 26
at Lovett Hall. At Mumford, not
only . seniors, but everyone is
invited to attend this dance.
The final - activity is gradua-
tion, to be held Jan. 25, when
180 seniors will take their final
look around the school. Best of
luck to - them all.
Under the supervision of Mr.
Shulman, social studies teach-
er, four students participated
in the "Town Meeting of the
Air," under auspices of WJR.
The program, a discussion of
the present-day school: system,
featured as panelists Richard
Lewiston, Joan Rodman, Jackie
Effrusy and Paul Dinu.
Two Mumfordites participat-
ed in the Michigan Forensics
contest, and won first place
prizes, Carole_ Karp with her
original oratory and Edward
Siegal with an extemporaneous
speech.
Hadassah teenagers recently
installed the following: Presi-
dent, Barbara Hershey; vice-
president, Renee Schiff; secre-
taries, Rena Schwartz and Mar-
ilyn Lux; treasurer, Geri Wei-
ner.
Representatives of the Mum-
ford French department ap-
peared on Channel 2, in a tele-
vision show, "This is Teach-
ing," and showed the modern
methods of teaching spoken
French. Under the direction of
Mrs. Dostal, Marcia Cantor,
Madelon Klunover, Judy Dis-
ner, Ruth Gelman, Bob Feld-
stein and Carole Karp partici-
pated.
On Jan. 15, Councilettes will
present a talent show on the
jazz era of the "roaring 20s,"
at Temple Israel, and will fea-
ture dances, piano duets, many
songs, and the Four Scores, a
vocal group. Anita Kramer is
director of this production.
