Office Box 488, Damascus, Syria,
dated Nov. 13, 1955, was sent to
the chairman of the board of
VerkoopkantOor Van Der Heem
N. .V., • Maanweg 256, Den Haag,
Holland. The letter follows:

Dear Sir:
As you are aware the Arabcoun-
tries are in a state of war with Israel
and for this 'reason we are making
an economical siege around _ that
Israel. This siege is administered by
a special control' and investigation
office with 'members of all the Arab
states. An officer in said office visited
us 'today and requested that following
infarmation be supplied about your -
company:

Israel Starts .Courses
For Stribes; To Relieve
Holy Scrolls . Shortage

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Spe-
cial courses to train "soferim,"
scribes expert in the calligra-
phy required for writing Holy
"Scripture on scrolls, have been
eStablished in /srael by. the
Ministry of Religion. It is
hoped, that the newly-trained
scribes will relieve the scarei-
of Holy Scrolls in this
country and also produce some
for export.
The first class; comprising
50 students, is now open in
Jerusalem.. A- second class of
35 is being organized at Kfar
Ganiro, and a third class will
soon be started at Tel Aviv..

Detroiters Plan
Second Dormitory
For Bardlan U.

Announcement was made this
week by the National Bar-Ilan
University Committee that funds
raised in Detroit will be used to
set up a second Detroit-spon-
sored dormitory at the univer-
sity in Thrael.
The first Detroit dormitory,
at Bar-Ilan, was established in
honor of Philip and Max
Stollman, vice-president of the
_board and chairman of the
building committee, respec-
tively, of the National Bar-
Ilan Committee.
An. auditorium, one of the
first Bar-Ilan buildings, has
been named in honor of Mr.
and Mrs. Abe Nusbaum of
Detroit
Funds for the second dormi-
tory will be provided from pro-
ceeds of the annualDetroit Miz-
rachi banquet, to be held in the
Latin Quarter, Jan. 18. T h e
speaker will be Prof. Marvin
Fok, of Ohio State University.
The musical program will be
provided by Uri Zifroni, Israeli,
opera star, and Julius Chajes.
