• Home for - Aged Resident Wins $16,000 On Television's 164,000 Question' NEW YORE, (JTA)—A 75- year-old resident of the Home for the Aged and Infirm Hebrews here solved a complex problem Tuesday night when she won $16,000 on the television program, The • $64,000 Question." Mrs. Mabel Morris, who has been in this country since 1910 wheti she came here from Great Britain, had these questions to ponder- after she won $8,000 the previous week: 1. Mrs. Morris, wino received public assistance, must return all money received in the • last 10 years, if she, like any other client, suddenly comes into wealth. 2. Her debt for public assist- ance was $7,000. ,. 0 ••••••••••••••••••••••: • 'ASEVENTEEN" • • • • • • • • • And More Ways to Entertain You, with • • • • • • • • • • • • • TE. 4-7730 or WE. 4-0879 • • • • SAMMY 4' • WOOLF • ft••••••••o••••tr 3. The U. S. Treasury would be looking for $1,540 in taxes. 4. As a result, Mrs. Morris, if she had won only $8,000, would be left with a minus $540. She escaped her dilemma, at least momentarily, by winning the $16,000 question, based on characters from "David Copper- field." Her category is Charles Dickens, the great English writer. How does Mrs. Morris feel about all this? She says she hasn't a problem in the world, because she loves the Home for Aged and Infirm Hebrew and has no inten- tion of moving out of the Home, which she calls "this lavish hotel." She added, "When I first went on the show, I said I was afraid of failure. I still feel that way. It's been a wonderful and jolly experience. After all, I do have the lovliest place in the world to come home to." Next Tuesday evening, Mrs. Morris will announce whether she will take the $16,000 or try for the $32,000 question. Should she fail to answer and win the consolation prize of a Cadillac, or its equivalent of .$5,000, she still has the , problem of who comes first, the welfare department or the income tax people.
