Canadian Group Sends 10,000 Tons of Wheat to Israel

MONTREAL, (JTA) — Anoth-
er shipment of Canadian wheat
to Igrael was arranged by the
'Canada-Israel Corporation which
is sponsored jointly by the
Canadian Jewish Congress and
the Zionist Organization of
Canada. The shipment, consist-
ing of 10,000 tons, left Vancouver
on the SS "Ionian Trader," for

Haifa, consigned to the govern-
ment of Israel.
In November a shipment of
9,700 tons of Canadian wheat was
sent to Israel on the SS "Endeav-
our." An amount of $1,600,000
was involved in these two trans-
actions. The shipments arranged
by the Canada-Israel Corpora-
tion since its inception involve
$5,800,000.

Women from over 100 churches
in Detroit, and the neighboring
communities will represent all
faiths at the sixth annual all-
day Institute on Liberal Judaism.
The institute, sponsored by the
Sisterhood of Temple Israel, will
be held on Monday, in the
temple, Manderson at Merton Rd.
Mrs. Harry Landsman, inter-
faith chairman, and Mrs. Julian
Weber, vice-president of pro-
gram, announce that the institute
will open at 9:30 a.m. with a
display of ceremonial tables.
Dscussion periods will follow,
led by Rabbi M. Robert Syrne,

of Temple Israel; Rabbi Minard
Klein, Temple Beth El; Rabbi
Frank Rosenthal, Temple Emanu-
El; and Rabbi Sanford Saper-
stein, of Pontiac's Temple Beth
Jacob.
Visitors and Sisterhood mem-
bers will adjourn for luncheon at
12:30 p.M.
The afternoon program will

begin with - a prayer by Dr.
Robert M. Frehse, executive sec-
retary of the Detroit Round
Table, and will include musical
selections by the Temple Israel
Choral Group and summations
by the visiting rabbis.
Highlighting the afternoon ses-
sion will be an address by Dr.
Leon Fram. Mrs. Irving S. Wolfe,
Sisterhood president, will preside.

rael recently decided to build a
four-story youth center to ease
the acute needs of the youth,
who have outgrown present fa-
cilities because of the tremen-
dous immigration to Israel.
The record of accomplishments
of the Hapoel Hamizrachi, the
religious Labor Zionist move-
ment, includes the establishment
in Israel of agricultural develop-
ments, consumer producer co-
operatives and children's institu-
tions.

Judaeo-Spanish Expert
Hailed on 80th Birthday

NEWARK, (JTA)—Dr. William
Milwitzzky, an expert in the
Judaeo-Spanish of the 15th cen-
tury and. the first and only
secondary school teacher ever to
serve as president of the National
Federation of Modern Language
Teachers, was congraluated last
week on• the occasion of his 80th
birthday.
Dr. Milwitzky served for almost
50 years in the Newark schools,
retiring as examiner and super-
visor of foreign languages for the
Newark Board of Education.
DT. Milwitzky recently moved
to New. York to be near the His-
panic Institute of Columbia Uni-
versity, for which he has been
writing, "A Comprehensive Study
of Judaeo-Spanish, with Special
Reference to 15th Century
Spanish."
Mrs. Milwitzky, the former
Selma March, is the author of
children's fiction.

Bnai Brith Funds to Aid,-
California Flood Victims

Emergency relief funds from
Bnai Brith are being rushed to
aid flood victims in California, it
was announced by Philip M.
Klutznick, world ' president of
Bnai Brith, in Washington. An
initial contributiOn of $3,000 was
sent to West Coast Bnai Brith of-
ficials in accordance with the
authority given the Bnai Brith
president to disburse funds to
help meet national catastrophes.
Other Bnai Brith units are giving
financial assistance. •

year term ending in 1959, eligible for election to the Board

Proposed Amendment to By-Laws:
Section 2 of Article III of the By-Laws now provides
that twenty-seien (27) members of the Board of Governors

shall be elected at large by the membership. of the Federa-
tion. Nine (9) are elected for a three-year term at each
annual meeting.
In addition the Board includes:
(a) One (1) member of the Board designated by
each institutional member of the Federation;
(b) Not more than twenty-five (25) members to be
designated by the Detroit Service Group, the
Junior Service Group, the Women's Division
and such organizational groupings as may be
designated from time' to time by the Board.

THE PROPOSAL AMENDS SECTION 2 OF ARTICLE
HI OF THE BY-LAWS BY ADDING THERETO THE
FOLLOWING:
(c) The retiring president of the *Federation, for a
term' of three (3) years following the com-
pletion of his term of office;
(d) Former presidents of the Federation, whose
terms of office expired not earlier than in the
year 1954, each for . a term 'of three (3) years
after the expiration of his last term of office;
(e) The chairmen of the Allied Jewish Campaign
during their term of service and for a term of
three (3) years following the completion of
such term of service.
