A Fine Concert

Marguerite Kozenn,. soprano
soloist with the Jewish Center
Symphony Orchestra, Tuesday
evening, thrilled the capacity
audience with her excellent in-
terpretation of the two Ro-
manian folk songs which were
recorded by Tibueriu Brediceanu
a n d orchestrated by Julius
Chajes, the orchestra's director.
Miss Kozenn was equally ef-
fective with her encore number,
Cavalho's "Matinata." She dis-
played skill as a musician in Eric
Zeisrs "Prayer," heard for the
first time at a public function
in Detroit, and. Dvorak's Aria
from -Rusalka.

Tuesday's - Center Symphony
concert was, again, a tribute to
the directional ,skill of Mr.
Chajes,_ who, throughout the fine
performance, showed his knowl
edge of the scores and his com-
plete control of the able orches-
tra.
The concert was made a total
triumph by the appearance of
another guest artist, the . dis-
tinguished pianist, Artur Balsam,
who played, most skillfully,
Hummel's Piano Concerto. This
concerto had its first perform-
ance in Detroit at this concert.
Mr. Balsam was so well liked
that a cheering audience forced
the lighted hall to be darkened
again so that Mr. Balsam, as-
sisted by the orchestra, could
play the final portion of the
concerto as an encore.
Mr. Balsam will be remem-
bered as the able accompanist
to Nathan Milstein, at the Bal-
four Concert of the Zionist Or-
ganization last month,

Bible s Prophecy
Good Omen for Israel

Editor, The Jewish News:
Mr. "Paul Revere" has given
Us a good picture of the facts as
they appear today of England's
duplicity toward Palestine. There
is no gainsaying the sad tale.
Since most of us believe Eretz
Israel to be the Holy Land whose
future as well as the past is
mentioned-in our Holy Book, the
Bible, we would ask:
Can we identify the present
situation with any biblical
prophecies? Can we see in any
degree what is to come by meas-
uring how far along in the se-
quence of prophesized events we
hive come?
My answer to both, questions is
"Yes." Many statements in the
Bible fit almost to a " T." We
read that England (referred to
as Ephraiin in the Bible) "has
Canaan in his hand as a balance
of deceit to oppress a beloved
people." •
England has juggled the native
population of Palestine about as
pawns, both under the Mandate
and now with the Arab 'refugee
problem, moves in against "a be-
loved people," Israel,
We also read that
. NOtsrira -
are coming from a land afar off—
and have uttered against the
Cities of Judah, their voice."
(Jeremiah 4:16).
RusSia, the prophet Ezekiel
says 38:10-11) . . will think
an evil thought and will say 'I
will go . . . to take a spoil'."
England and America (under
the names Ephraim and Manas-
seh), the Bible says, will be
against each oth'er and against
their brother Judah (Medinat
Israel) at a point. However,
"Ephraim shall not envy Judah
and Judah shall not vex Ephriam,
but they shall fly on the wing of
the Philistines in the west; to-
gether shall they make prey of
the Sons of the East!'
Peter 0. Moyle.
