Forest Certificate
At Testimonial

Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Laikin
on Monday evening were pre-
sented with a certificate signify-
ing that a Forest is being planted
in their honor on land of the
Jewish National Fun in Israel.
The presentation was made by
Irving Schhissel, president of
the Detroit JNF Council, at the
testimonial dinner in the-Laikins'
honor, marking Mr. Laikin's 60th
birthday. - The Labor Zionist Or-
ganization and the Laikin Forest
Committee of the JNF was in
chaige of arrangements.
Guest speakers at the dinner
were Abe- Tuvim, executive di-
rector of the JNF Foundation,
and Pinchas Cruso, who spoke
for the Central Committee of the
Labor Zionist Organization.
William Hordes, co-chairman
with Harry Schumer of the
Laikin Forest Committee, was
toastmaster. Speakers on the
program also included Mr. Schu-
mer, M. Goldoftas, Morris Lieb-
erman, Boris Joffe and Mrs.
Sidney Ravin.
J. J. Schwartz, noted poet, also
spoke and read two of his poems.
The musical program 'featured
Shoshana Freedman, soloist, ac-
companied by Bella Goldberg.
Rabbi Frain gave the invocation.
Mr. Laikin, in his response,
spoke of the importance of the
two causes he cherishes most
dearly—the Poale Zion and the
Jewish National Fund. 'Mrs.
Laikin also responded briefly to
the evening's tributes.
In the course of the evening,
Mr. Hordes announced that the
JNF is planning to plant a Forest
in Israel in honor of the Stoll-
man Family.

Roberta Silverstein, daughter
of Mr.• and Mrs. Samuel Silver-
Stein, of 3030 Sturtevant, was
married on Dec. 4 to Sol Cohen,
son of Mr. and Mrs. David Cohen,
of Oak Park. Rabbi Jacob E.
Segal and Cantor Nioholas Fena-
kel officiated at the ceremony,
held at the Bel-Aire Terrace.
The bride wore a gown of
candlelight chantilly lace, made
with a fitted bodice and scalloped,
modified, off-the-shoulder neck-
line. Her fingertip veil of tulle
was attached to a Juliet cap of
matching lace, and she carried a
white orchid and stephanotis on
a Bible.
Mrs. Miriam Weiss was matron
of honor, and Roberta Gellerman,
the bride's cousin, was maid of
honor. Serving as bridesmaid was
Violet Spitzer. •
