• PICTORIAL HISTORY' OF. THE
JEWiSH PEOPLE

In recognition for their support of the recent High Holy Day -
Bond appeal, made in their synagogue by Congressman Emanuel
Celler, members of Adas Shalom were presented with a Jerusalem
Bible on Nov. 23, immediately following the Thanksgiving serv-
ices. PHILLIP" STOLLMAN, chairman of the Detroit. Committee
for State of Israel. Bonds (left), is shown making the presentation -
to Rabbi JACOB 1E; 'SEGAL and CHARLES CHARLIP, congrega-
tion president who accepted the Bible on behalf of the member-
ship. The Bible, shown in close-up, is the first edition in Hebrew
3nd English _ever to be produced in Jerusalem. The Hebrew text
is especially adapted lor use in the synagogue, and the English
translation was specially revised by a renowned Jewish scholar
to be in keeping - with Jewish traditional. interpretation.: -This
Hebrew-English version has been sanctioned by the • rabbinate.
The publication is the first fruits of a 30-year-old dream ,of .the
ilamadpis Liphshitz Press, founders of the Jerusalem Bible Pub-
- fishing Co., Ltd. For decades, hithert0, - the publication ..of- the
Holy Scripture was the work of non-Jewish printers. Five other
Detroit Synagogues will be similarly honored - for their partici-
pation in the High Holy Day effort. They are: Bnai David, Young
Israel, Beth Slunuel, Bnii Zion and Ahavas Aehim. - . •
