Goebbels' Pupils in Cairo
(By a Special Correspondent)
Cairo broadcasts to the United
States have, until recently, been
limited to the simultaneous
transmission of an Arabic pro-
gram — chiefly destined for
South America. Towards the end
of November, Cairo announced
experimental broadcasts to the
United States with the obvious
intention of adding direct trans-
missions to North _ America to
its principal service.
The new project deserves at-
tention - in good time. Judged by
the line which Cairo radio has
been taking • in its broadcasts
during the last few months, the
service to open shortly is likely
to bring to the United States a
flood of mischievous comment
and racialist propaganda in the
best technique of the ill-famed
Dr. Goebbels.
Tune in to Cairo's home serv-
ice and listen to a few of the
newsComnientaries and press re-
views and their continuous com-
plaints about American policy
concerning Israel and the Arab
countries — and you will know
what to expect.
said many American statesmen
'thought they were capable of
steering -world' policy. To justify
their mistakes they talked of the
balance of poWer and the threat
of war, but it was they who
upset this balance and increased
this threat. The world would find
the road to peace when it com-
prehended Abd al-Nasir's state-
ment that Egypt would buy more
arms if Israel were supplied by
the U.S.A.
Complaints about Americhn
policy concerning Israel and the
Arab countries were also made
in Cairo's "Voice of the Arabs"
program. G a m a 1 al-Sanhouri
gave a commentary which con-
tained the observation that
Egypt, in declaring that she
would seek further arms sup-
plies, was doing no more than
trying to keep the balance which
had been disturbed by the U.S.A.
and "her adopted daughter,"
Isr ael.

Ahmed Shawqui, in a commen-
tary broadcast by "The Voice of

A commentator broadcasting
on Cairo's home service discov-
ered that the U.S.A., by refusing,
to recognize the U.N. 1947 reso-
lution on the return of Arab
refugees, and by supporting Is-
rael, was "serving its own polit-
ical interests, for both American
political parties were seeking the
Jewish vote." Eisenhower and
Dulles approved of, giving Israel
more territory and "might even
approve 'of its ambition to ex-
tend from the Euphrates to the
Nile." American policy was re-
flected in the U.S.A.'s frigid re-
spolse to Eden's proposals and
in' her sympathetic attitude to
Israel's requests for arms Abd
al-Nasir had warned the U.S.A.
that its policy would create an
arms race. America's pretense!
that communism would infiltrate
the Middle East with Czechos-
lovak arms had become monot-
onous.
Another Cairo commentator
said that the Zionists were now
aware that Egypt "no longer de-
pended on the supporters of
Zionisrn for arms." This followed
an assertion that the Israelis
were faced with a strong Egyp-
tian army and with Arab deter-
mination in the north.
The f ollowing newspapers
were quoted in Cairo's home
service press reviews.—
Al-Akhbar: Russia realizes
that its Zionists only professed
communism to serve Zionism
more effectively. In Britain there
are sixty Zionist Labour MPs; in
the U. S. A., the American politi-
cal parties can never hope to
shake off the domination of 1, 7
500,000 Zionist votes unless their
leaders agree on a joint policy
towards Zionism. Zionist in-
fluence could have been wiped
out long ,ago but for the Ku Klux
Klan, which diverted attention
from the Zionists to itself.
had they, cared that they were
sowing the seeds of world war.
Israel continued to receive gifts
from the U.S.A. and its allies,
boasting that with their --arms
contributions she was capable of
crushing the Arab armies. Egypt
had been denied arms while Is-
ra.el was creating a terrorist at-,
niosphere on the frontiers to
Support the Western campaign to
drive the Arabs into a massacre.
Among Arab newspapers quoted
by "The Voice of the Arabs" was
the Lebanese Al-Jarida, which
said that confusion had been
caused among the Western Pow-
ers by the. Arabs' unity and by
their ability to attain military
superiority by • means of arms,
"without conditions," from the
Eastern bloc. Was the U.S.A. now
convinced that the Arab world
would never , permit any med-
dling with its security?
_ The Egyptian Al-Qahira was
quoted by "The Voice of the
Arabs" as saying that Dulles'
preoccupation with the Israel
problem had caused the failure
of the Geneva conference, for
Dulles Considered Israel "a part
of the U.S.A. • removed to the
Middle East, though the fact is
that Israel is trying to make of
Washington an artery to the
heart of Tel Aviv."

Advice on . Foreign Policy
Al-Gumhouriya had an article
by Col. Anwar al:Sadat on. the
subject of Zionist influence in
the U.S.A. Declaring that he had
been amused to read that Am-
erican newspaper editors had re-
solved to appeal to the Govern-
/nerd against restrictions on news
reporting, Al-Sadat said: "The
poor American public!' No one
Outside the - U.S.A.
is ignorant of
the - ` Zionist domination of the
American press." Earlier, Anwar
al-Sadat was quoted for an `Al-
Guinhouriya article in which he
said that if the Americans had
followed the advice of George
Washington—to have as few ex-
ternal political connections as
possible—the world, and in par-
ticular the Arabs, would have
been spared the misery inflicted
by American policy during the
past 20-30 years, Col. Al-Sadat
said: "Go back to the policy of
isolationism as recommended by
Washington and outlined for you
by Monroe .. . You would per-
haps be doing mankind and your-
selves the greatest service on
earth."
