The trains will have pneumatic
tires and, instead of utilizing
rails, they will run on an asphalt
roadbed. The subway; which will
be noiseless, will cut travel time
from the port to the residential
section from 311 minutes to five

The subway will be electric-

• Emphasizing the • vital need
for investment capital to main-
tain Israel's freedom and to
open wide its doors to all Jews
who need a haven, Mr. - Allan
urged the Jews of Detroit to
extend their wholehearted sup-
port to the one-day Israel Bond
campaign, which will enable
_Israel to receive essential funds
for its economic upbuilding.

- "By: observing National Action
Day :kr Israel," Mrs. Adler said,
"the people of Detroit will have
an opportunity to join the 750,000
persons. throughout the world,,
who have 'purchased Israel
Solids, to become • partners .cat
Israel. This partnership; which
has resulted in. some $200,000,000
in Israel Bond investment dol-
lars, has brought about marked
economic progress, including the
construction and expansion of in-.
dustries, the growth and mech-
anization of farms, the exploita-
tion of natural-resources, the in-
troduction. on a large scale of
irrigation projects and the im-
provement of transport and com-

that the present crisis shall not
alter our march toward eco-
nomic independence," Mr. Hushi
stressed. "It is our conviction
that economic progress is one of
the best lines of defense and
that economic stability is a basic
necessity for our hopes of peace
in this area of the world."
He pointed out that almost
'$17,000,000 in 'Israel Bond in-
vestment funds have - 'already
been invested in Haifa's 'indus-
tries, port expansion, housing
projects and similar develop-
ments. - .
One of the key points in the
master_ plan described by Major
Hushi is the construction of a
funicular subway that will run
from the Port of Haifa to the
residential section on the slopes
of historic Mt. Cannel. While
enroute to the United States,
Mayor Hushi reported, he made
arrangements in Paris for the
utilizatioff of a newly-invented
subway train just developed in
