1,000 Attend Dinner
Of Detroit Round Table

Brevities

Nearly 1,000 civic, business and
professional leaders in Detroit at-
tended the 27th anniversary din-
ner of the Detroit Round Table
of the National Conference of
Christians and Jews last Thurs-
day, in Masonic Temple.
Paul Carnahan, president of
the Great Lakes Steel Corp., the
evening's principal speaker, said,
"Knowledge tempered and en-
nobled by understanding and
good will—may prove to be the
greatest and most beneficial
power in the hands of mankind."
Other participants included Dr.
Leon Fram, spiritual leader of
Temple Israel; Dr. Herbert
Beecher Hudnut, pastor of the
Woodward Avenue Presbyterian
Church; and Rev. Leo J. Trese,
of Vista Maria School.
Proceeds from the $25 a plate
dinner will be used to support
the Round Table's educational
activities which aim at eliminat-
ing racial and religious preju-
dice.

RUBEN GOLD, of 18303 Rose-
mont, recently attained the desig-
nation of Insurance Counselor,
according to an announcement
by the Michigan Insurance De-
partment. The designation, ac-
cording to the announcement,
means that Gold is licensed to
act as a life insurance auditor,
abstractor or analyst, under pro-
visions of the Michigan Insur-
ance Code. Gold is a Chartered
Life Underwriter, affiliated with
the New York Life Insurance
Co. .

Detroiters to Open
Camp at Petoskey

Camp Petosega, located at Pe-
toskey, Mich., will ,hold its pre-
mier season next year, it is an-
nounced this week by Leonard
P. Baruch and Bertrand Sand-
weiss, owners and directors.
Located in Michigan's north
woods, the camp's facilities in-
clude sailing, canoeing, water
skiing, riding, crafts, dramatics,
archery, tennis,
fishing, m u s i c,
all land sports
and a navigation
program.
A camp-own-
ed cabin cruiser
is maintained for
t h e navigation
course. Upon
completion o f
the c 0 urse,
campers are
taken on a cruise
to Mackinac Is-
land.
Baruch
Baruch and Sandweiss, both
with over 10 years of camp ex-
perience, state that Camp Peto-
sega will be open to boys and
,girls, 7 to 16. Cabins are equip-
ped with hot and cold water,
showers and lavatories.
Baruch is teacher-librarian at
Cooley High School, and for many
years has been youth director of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Sand-
weiss, a member of Shaarey Ze-
dek's educational department,
teaches at Barbour Junior High
School.
