Pioneer Women Back from Parley
To Organize Membership Campaign

Filled with enthusiasm over
the success of its 14th biennial
convention last week in Toronto,
local members of the Pioneer
Women are embarking on its
annual member-
ship campaign.
At the con-
vention, Mrs. Ir-
ving Posner,
local past presi-
dent, was elect-
ed to serve on
the national
board. Mrs. Cha-
na Michlin, De-
troit's national
r e p resentative
was nameck
"Woman of the.:::
Year" for rais-
ing more funds
than any other Mrs. Kantor
member in the country.
One of the convention high-
lights was an announcement of a
$500,000 gift by Mrs. Florence
Holtz, of Philadelphia, in memory
of her husband, the -late Leon
Holtz, to both Histadrut and the
Pioneer Women.
The fund will be used to estab-
lish trade schools for boys and
girls in Tel Aviv.--
Mrs. Chaya Surchin, of New
York, was elected president, suc-
ceeding Dr. Sarah Feder. Beba
Odelson, secretary general of
Moatzot Hapoalot, sister organi-
zation of Pioneer Women in Is-
rael, was one of the principal
speakers
A two-year fund-raising quota
of $2,500,000 was adapted by the
500 delegates, who represent 40,-
000 Pioneer Women. In an imme-
diate response to the drive, which
aims at establishing 88 new re-

Miss Sp a n n e r, of Cleveland,
trained as a nurse at Detroit's
Harper Hospital. She served over-
seas during World War I, and
since has worked for various or-
ganizations, notably Pioneer
Women.
Miss Spanner's schedule her e

in the home of Mrs. Frank Was-
ser, vice-president of organiza-
