Series of Articles on Israel
To Begin in Sunday's Times

"Israel: War or Peace?" is the
title of a series of articles which
will appear in The Detroit Times,
starting this Sunday,
The series is written by Erwin
Savelson, who has just returned
from his fourth assignment to
Israel since . February, 1949, and
who brings glowing reports Of
Israel's progress, plus warnings
of the peril of war.
On this assignment, Savelson
also had frank talks with Pre-
mier Nasser and other Egyptian
officials and leading citizens.
His- series describes the immi-
nent danger of war in the Middle
East and the need to strengthen
Israel in the current crisis. He
feels that the crux of the unrest
is the Arab refugee problem, and
offers a solution which, if adopt-
ed, could lead to a lessening of
tension.
Many photographs will illus-
trate the series which will also
describe the oil strike, the miracle
of Beersheba, _life on the Gaza
frontier, victory over the desert,
operation Lachish, the resettle-
ment of 100,000 to 200,000 Jews
in the Valley of Elah and other
dramatic phases of Israel's prog-
resS.
Savelson is the author of three
previous series on Israel and the
Middle East. He watched the
young Republic grow into a dyn-
amic democracy from its war
days when -he wrote "What I
Found in Israel," then returned
in 1951 to describe "Aeturn to
Israel."
In 1952, he warned of a "Second
Round" with the Arab world
after another on-the-spot survey
during which he traveled by com-
mando car from one end of Israel
