Three-Day Seminary Caravan Planned by Adas Shalom Members A three-day caravan to the Jewish Theological Seminary will be undertaken by members of Adas Shalom Synagogue, it was announced by Rabbi Jacob E. Segal and Joseph Katchke, cara- van chairman. The caravan will leave from Willow Run airport on Nov. 10, and will conclude Nov. 13. It is expected that 30 to 40 men and women will participate in this pilgrimage. The activities of the caravan will be confined largely to study sessions under the tutelage of the Seminary's faculty. Classes At Beth Hamidrash The Beth Hamidrash, School of Judaism—combining the adult education programs of the Young Israel Center in Detroit and Oak Park, the Bnai David Adult In- stitute and adult . education classes at Cong. Beth Abraham and Mogen Abraham—will begin next month. Courses covering a wide range of Jewish subjects will be taught by prominent instructors in the community . and are open to the . public. Classes will be held in various public buildings, and will begin at the dates listed below: Young Israel of Detroit, Dex- ter at Fullerton, beginning on Nov. 14, will have as faculty members Dr. Max Kapustin, Rabbi A. Zentman and Rabbi Eric Greenbaum. Classes . will be offered on Jewish history, law, philosophy and Maimonides. Young Israel of Oak-Woods, 24061 Coolidge, beginning classes this Tuesday, will feature begin- ners' Hebrew and Judaism, Its History and Meaning, both taught by Rabbi Yaakov I. Homnick. Beginning on Nov. 14 will be classes in the Oak Park High School, 13701 Oak Park Blvd. Courses in Siddur, beginners' Hebrew, songs, philosophy and Bible will be taught by Rabbis Israel I. Halpern and Hayim Donin and Cantor Hyman J. Adler. • The Beth Hamidrash also will sponsor a series of public lec- tures by prominent speakers, to be announced at a later date. 60 Detroit Women Go to Hadassah's Parley in Chicago More than 60 Detroit women will be on- the special Hadassah coach leaving Sunday morning to attend the 41st annual national convention of Hadassah, the Wo- men's Zionist Organization of America, to be held at the Morri- son - Hotel in Chicago, Sunday through Wednesday. Mrs. William B. Isenberg, pres- ident of the Detroit Chapter, will head of local delegation. Ethel Rosenthal is Detroit convention chairman. Among the guest speakers will be Harold E. Informal talks have been scheduled with Prof. Shalom Spiegel, authority on Jewish his- tory; Dr. Abraham Heschel, pro- fessor of Jewish mysticism and ethics, and Dr. Saul Lieberman, leading probably the world's scholar in Talmud and author of the new Tosefta. Other sessions on the agenda include a" class in Bible under Prof. Abraham Halkind and a lecture on Jewish ethics by Dr. Bernard Mandelbaum, the Sem- inary's dean of students. The caravan will visit the Rare Manuscript Room of the Seminary Library. Here, among other treas- ures, are the Zacuto Charts, pre- pared for Christopher Columbus by the Jewish cartographer Abra- ham Zacuto for use in Columbus' voyages to the New World. A visit to the Jewish Museum, accompanied by Dr. Stephen Kayser, its curator, has been scheduled. The group will also be *guests at a "hire" telecast of the Seminary's "Frontiers of Faith" television program, given in conjunction with NBC. Two luncheon sessions will be addressed by Dr. Max Arzt, vice chancellor of the Seminary, and Dr. Moshe Davis, the Seminary's provost. Another feature of the caravan week-end will be the group's participation in sabbath services in the Seminary synagogue. These services are under the supervi- sion of the young rabbinical stu- dents. A student preacher will deliver a sermon and conduct the service. All sabbath meals will be taken with the resident students, and an oneg shabbat will be cele- brated at the home of one of the Seminary's professors. Churchill Hails Role of Technion On Nov. 1 the Detroit Miz- rachi will hold an installation dinner at Lachar's, for newly elected officers of local Miz- rachi and the Bar-Ilan. Univer- .• '.. sity committee. The guest of honor will be Rabbi Mordecai Kirshblum, na- tional president of the Mizrachi Organization of America. Rabbi' Kirsh- blum arrived recently f r o m Israel where he participated in the sessions of the Zionist Ac- tions Committee, which adopted Rabbi Kirshbluni many vital reso- lutions for the Jewish State. He also was one of the main par- ticipants in the World Mizrachi Conference in Jerusalem and at the Dedication of the Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan. He is known to the Detroit public as an unusual and impressive speaker and it will be of great interest to hear his message at this crucial time in the history of Medinat Yisrael.
