Max Rosenberg, author of the
"Detroit Quiz" in the Detroit
News, has written an "Introduc-
tion to Philosophy" that is
attracting increasing interest
throughout the country. Publish-
ed by Philosophical Library (15
E. 40th, N.Y. 16), his 500-page
volume delves into the subject
so extensively that its dramatic
approach is being acclaimed and
the information he has gathered
is serving as a guide for teach-
ers and students of philosophy.
Mr. Rosenberg explains philo-
sophy as: "a way of looking at
the world," as "an explanation
of - existence," as "the way of
things.' By illustrating his points
with the lore he has gathered
from all peoples,,all ages, all
faiths, his thesis becorries especi-
ally effective.
Thus, the reader—and the stu-
dent—learns from this compila-
tion who the philosophers are,
their approaches to life, their
views of reality; of the universe,
of life and death ;
He enters into a discussion of
"right and wrong," of beauty
and the good life. His work "en-
courages the search for the best
values in life. He analyzes, ad-
vises, offers valuable definitions,
such as: "Happiness is the fruit
of the tree we call content."
Mr. Rosenberg makes use of
the Scriptural gems, of the wis-
dom of the Bible, of the philoso-
phy of the great men of all
time, including the outstanding
Jewish philosophers, as well as
of the world's great classics and
classicists.
-Mr. Rosenberg- is - a social
studies teacher in Detroit's
schools. He has made a life-long
study of philosophy, which has
become his chief avocation. He
lives with his .wife and three
children at 2969 Fullerton.
