SOC Hadassah Culminates
Honor Roll with Fashion Show
By the Oak-Woodser
Over 400 suburban women are
hoping for a continuation of the
past week's beautiful fall
weather when they begin their
trek to Tam O'Shanter Country
Club — the scene of this year's
culminating Honor Roll event;
scheduled by the South Oakland
County of Hadassah.
To be held. at 1 p.m. Tuesday,
the program also holds signs of
being one of the big social events
of the season for •Oak-Woods
women.
A special collection of clothes
and furs will be shown by Mil-
grim's, who, on the following
day, will present their annual
_fashion show at the Detroit Boat
Club. So, SOC Hadassah mem-
bers will' be getting a preview
' of some of the finest creations for
fall and winter wear.
Laurena Pringell, fashion edi-
tor of The Detroit Free Prass,
will do the commentary on the
Tam O'Shanter showing, which
also includes modeling of new
jewelry items.
According to Mrs. Oscar
Band, who is vice-president of
fund-raising for the SOC Chap-
ter, women who attend wvill all
be Honor Roll contributors. A
pledge of .$16 over and above
regular dues is the only eligi-
bility requirement, Mfs. Band
states.
SOC's goal during the Honor
Roll function is $14,500, which
is its share of the $9,000,000 fig-
ure set by National Hadassah for
immediate overseas needs.
The national goal is not an ar-
bitrary figure, states Mrs. Band;
but is based on calculated needs
for funds which are channeled
primarily , in four areas. These
are:
1. Hadassah Medical Organiza-
tion — the vital health agencies
operated by the women's Zionist
group in Israel, including its

medical school, run in conjunc-
tion with klebrew University; a
huge nurses training program,
and seven clinics which serve the
Jewish state's outlying areas.
2. Youth Aliyah—the life-sav-
ing immigration program con-
ducted by the Jewish Agency, in
which Hadassah serves as the
American arm. Today, Youth Ali-
yah is vitally concerned with the
immigration of thousands of
North African youngsters who
are caught in the web of Moroc-
can and Tunisian nationalist up-
risings.
3. Jewish National Fund—the
agency which buys back the land
in Israel and, through the plant-
ing of trees is able to build up
the soil and, as a result, the na-
tion.
4. Vocational schools—the net-
work of schools which have been
erected to instruct new immi-
grants in trades and Israeli cul-
ture so as to integrate them
speedily into Israel's economy.
"It is never too late to con-
tribute to Honor Roll," Mrs.
Band said. "Even if Tuesday
does mark the official culmina-
tion, we plan to continue our
efforts to meet and surpass our
goal. That's how vital these
funds are to the people we try
to help." •
Working with Mrs. Band on
Honor Roll are Mrs. William
Deutsch, chairman, and Mrs. Mel-
vin Kolbert, co-chairman, Hun-
tington Woods area; Mrs. Louis
Cooper, Oak Park area; and Mrs.
Lester Taubman, Birmingham
and Franklin areas.
Mrs. Herman Prady is serving
a second year as president of
the SOC Chapter, which has now
reached a membership of over
1,000 women.

YOUR
SHEKEL
YOUR BEST INVESTMENT FOR A DOLLAR
Whether in Israel, the United States or anywhere else in the world,
the status, the well-being, the very future of the Jewish people
rests largely in your hands. From earliest recorded history, the
Shekel has been the shining symbol of individual responsibility
toward the nation, a voluntary, self-imposed tax to preserve
Jewish institutions and Jewish life through the darkest days of
exile and despair. And today it remains more than ever the most
widely-accepted device by which Jews everywhere can stand up
and be counted.
As. the token of identification with the World Zionist Organization,'
the Shekel makes it possible for your voice to be heard in the
highest policy-making body of World Zionism, through your vote
for delegates to the 24th World Zionist Congress next year in
Jerusalem.
At this historic session, your representatives from every Zionist
body in the world will be called upon to make decisions that ulti-
mately affect you, your children, and your children's children.
They can act only with your mandate.
Acquire your Shekel, sell the Shekel to your friends and
neighbors—acquire your share in the future of the Jewish people._
