of the American Jewish Physi-
cians' Committee, will speak on
the Hebrew University Hadassah
Medical School and medical prog-

Health Organization Medical Ad-
visory Committee, Dr. Fishbein
recently visited Israel and the
Middle-East for a study of med-
ical institutions. He is the med-
ical editor of the Encyclopaedia
Brittanica and the Brittanica
Book of the Year.

Author of 21 books on medi-
cine, he has written for the Sat-
urday Evening Post, Good House-
keeping, Reader's Digest, Wo-
man's Home Companion and Col-
liers.

Dr. Fishbein was decorated
Knight Commander of the Crown
(Italy) in 1953, and Order of
Carlos Finlay of Cuba in 1942.
He was awarded the Certificate
of Merit by President Truman in
1948 in recognition of his out-
standing efforts as chairman of
the Committee on Information of
the National Research Councli.

To Speak at Bond Rally Oct. 17

Detroit Women's Division for

that bond workers and pur-
chasers Will hear Lt. Col. Dina
Werth, commander of the Train-
ing Division of CHEN, Women's
Army of Israel, and Menahem
Pressler, outstanding young Is-
raeli pianist, at their annual
meeting on Oct, 17 in the Grand
Ballroom •of the Statler Hotel.
One of Israel's foremost public
figures, Lt. Col. Werth will be
able to give bond workers first
hand information about Israel
and what bond dollars are doing
there. She will discuss the role
of the Women's Army in re-
settlement, re-education and re-
clamation of the hundreds of
thousands of new settlers in
Israel.
A civic reception for Col.
Werth, planned to be held in the
State Suite of the Statler Hotel
on Oct. 16, will give her a chance
to meet with leading Detroit pub-
lic figures, local military person-
nel and Jewish community lead-
ers.
Col. Werth will speak to • a
smaller group of Jewish women
at a "brunch" preceding the an.-
' nual meeting.

Scheduled to appear in a re-
cital at the annual meeting is
Menahem Pressler, Israeli pian-
ist, who will be making his De-
troit debut. Born in Germany
and educated both there and in
Israel, Pressler has appeared in
the U.S.. with such orchestras as
the Philadelphia Symphony, the
Indianapolis Symphony and the
New York Philharmonic.

Admission to the Women's Div.
Annual Meeting is by the pur-
chase or sale of $500 in bonds
this year.

Each of the women earned
the distinction by selling more
than $30,000 in State of Israel
Bonds. They also have received
a sequence of 12 charms, de-
picting the Tribes of Israel, for
the same reason.
The local women leaders are
all members of the advanced
guard of CHEN, the women's vol-
unteer sales corps of the Israel
Bond Organizations. Each charm
they received is an award for
purchase or sale of $2,500 in
Bonds.
The Washington cer emony
served as the prelude for a "Half-
Way Mark" get-together for De-
troit Bond Saleswomen, who will
meet at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday,
in Temple Israel. Mrs. Joseph
Newman, CHEN chairman, will
preside.
The meeting is the midpoint of
the fall sales campaign, which
will culminate with a large after-
noon meeting Oct. 17, in the
Statler Hotel's Grand Ballroom.
All CHEN workers who have
,sold their quotas of Bonds will
be able to attend. Col. Werth
will be here to receive honors
•on the occasion.
The present campaign started
Sept. 14, at a meeting of presi-
dents and bond chairmen of all
local women's groups, presided
over by Mrs. Charles Milan,
chairman of the organizations
committee of the Bond Organi-
zation.

Two of the many events to
spark. the bond activities will be
a parlor meeting on Oct. 12 at
the home of Mrs. Jacob Gelfand,
at 4327 W. Outer Dr., featuring
Hayim Sanderson, deputy direc-
tor of the department of customs
in 'Israel. • Also, the Rev. John
Grauel, executive director of the
American Christian Palestine
Committee, will speak to the
women at the home of Mrs. Harry
Sosnick, at 1560 Lincolnshire.
Heralding- the annual meeting
was a press interview with Col.
Ben Edden, of the Israel Army,
who was here this week with an DETROiT JEWISH NEWS-5

NEW YORK, (JTA) — A
group of 41 young people sailed
for Israel for a year of work
and study under the auspices of
the Habonim Youth Workshops.
This is the fifth year of opera-
tion of the Workshop program.
The young people, from all
over the United States, will
spend most of the year working
and studying .in a kibbutz. They
will make extensive trips
throughout the country on con-
ducted tours and in small hiking
groups., They will also be pre-
pared for youth leadership work
on their return at the end of the
year.
