shouting. There is, of course,
some shouting, but only by way
of greeting and the disembarka-
tion proceeds speedily and
smoothly, setting in motion the
well-oiled machine of the gov-
ernment and Jewish Agency au-
thorities. A great deal has been
learned from the mistakes pre-
viously made: not only how to
help the immigrants get settled

and absorbed,. but also how to
deal with the _ complex disem-
barkation problem.
Today disembarkation. proceeds
so. rapidly that the immigrants
are put through all its stages and
formalities within only a few
hours. Then they immediately
board trucks that take therri to
-the places- of their destination
work villages on- Jewish Na-
tional Fund land—where they
are given every opportunity to
beCorne integrated at once.
The trucks the already . there,
and off the new immigrants go
to the new villages where houses
furnished with bedding -and beds
and kitchen utensils are waiting
for them. From the very next
day they can already earn their
living and begin work on one
of the vast JNF projects; affores-
tation, building of terraces on
hills or any other way of soil
reclamation. These villages, which
are all on JNF land, are not
exclusively inhabited by new-
comers.
A Multicolored Crowd
As to the immigrants, they
come from . every country in
North Africa, even from Egypt,
from where they arrive via
Italy or France. They are a
brisk and multicolored crowd,
