Deny African Immigrants
Are Burdon on Israel
JERUSALEM, (JTA)—The
Jewish Agency denied state-
ments made- at the recent Con-
sultative Conference of Jewish
Organizations in London that
the mass immigration of North
African Jews has upset the eco-
nomic balance in Israel.
In a statement issued by the
Agency's immigration depart-
ment it was averred that not
only did this migration not in-
terfere with Israel's economy,
but it served to increase produc-
tion.
This is particularly true in the
field of agriculture, the state-
ment said, because two-thirds of
the new immigrants go directly
to agricultural settlements and
one-third go to new develop-
ment areas.
