JOSELYN M. SHORE (left)
and LAWRENCE G. LASKEY.
Lawrence G. Laskey of Boston,
and Josselyn M. Shore, of Great
Neck, will serve as chairmen of
the new National Finance Coun-
cil of the American Zionist Corn-
mittee for Public Affairs, accord-
ing to Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein,
chairman of the Committee.
Rabbi Bernstein designated
Laskey and Shore to form the
Council, and initiate a nation-
wide campaign for funds to
finance the work of the Com-
mittee for Public Affairs, which
is the agency in this country
responsible for political action
to promote American-Israel
friendship.
In accepting the chairmenship,
Laskey and Shore issued the fol-
lowing statement:
"Our Government's policy in
the Near East has a direct bear-
ing on Israel's prospects for peace
and security. At the same time,
we cannot ignore the fact that
continuing tensions in the Near
East affect the welfare of our
own country. We firmly believe
that friendship between the U. S.
and Israel is important in the
solution of the critical problems
of the Near East.
. "The recent statement by
Secretary of State John Foster
Dulles has revealed that the
problem of an Arab-Israel peace
is now under urgent considera-
tion in Washington. It therefore
becomes of crucial importance to
pr6mote good will between the
U. S. and Israel. This can best be
accomplished by strengthening
the work of the Commitee for
Public Affairs."
Both Laskey and -Shore have
devoted many years to national
Jewish philanthropic causes.
Laskey, who has been associat-
ed with E. M. Loew's Theaters in
Boston for the past 18 years, is
New England chairman for Israel
Bonds and has also been active
in the United Jewish Appeal.
Shore,' a prominent New York
chairman of the Women's Under-
wear and Negligee Division of
the New York UJA and was the
first Israel Bond chairman in
Great Neck.
