A MIRACLE IN THE DESERT

miracle is coming true in Israel.
This Rosh Hashonah, 5716, crops are blossom-
ing in the desert ...the brown land is turning green
...people are flourishing...as life-giving water surges
through the Negev.

Behind this miracle stands the mighty -
$40,000,000 Yarkon-Negev irrigation pipeline ...
built in - large measure with fundS from the United
Jewish Appeal.

Yes, four thousand years ago Isaiah prophesied
...the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose .
in the wilderness shall waters break out and springs

Opened this past summer, this giant-size,
66-mile pipeline eventually will irrigate 50,000
acres of this one-time wasteland. It will serve 200

farm communities, and add vast agricultural produce
to Israel's economy.

For the people of Israel and the hardy pioneers
who dared to build farms in the Negev desert, this
is a Happy New Year indeed... thanks to you.
But so much more remains to be done in the
year ahead.

A second Yarkon pipeline must be started.
New farms, schools and roads must be built. Israel's
freedom must be strengthened and its economic
independence speeded.

And the thousands living in lands of oppression
and danger ... who wait anxiously to enter Israel's
gates of freedom ...must be helped to see their dream
come true.

On this Rosh Hashonah, 5716, be happy. in
