That the female name, Yanthe,
which in popular parlance has
an approbrious designation, is of
classic Greek origin; here, to
quote Poe in his Al Aaraaf:
"Yanthe, dearest, see how dim
that ray!"
In mentioning Poe, the fol-
lowing comes to mind, and here
again I quote him:
"It is observable that, in his
brief • account of the creation,
Moses employs the words Para
Elohim no less than 30 times,
using the noun in the plural with
the verbs in the singular. Else-
where, however, in Deuteronomy,
for example, he employs the
singular Eloah (marginalia)."
Thus it seems that Poe knew
Hebrew fairly well, better, per-
haps, than our contemporary co-
religionists.

`The Great Al Jolson'

Columbia Pictures. will release
a short film, "The Great Al Jol-
son," this fall, coincident with
the fifth anniversary of the late
singer's death. Ralph Staub, who
will produce it, has called in
seven writers who composed
many of Jolson's top songs to ap-
pear in the short, planned as a
film memorial to the entertainer.
Edited into the film will be a
clip lensed years ago of Jolson
impressing his knee-prints in the
forecourt of Grauman's Chinese
Theater in Hollywood.
