Synagogues to Begin New Year 5716
With Roth Hashanah Services Today

Rosh Hashanah—beginning the
New Year 5716—will commence
at sundown this evening, and will
be commemorated with solemn
services in all of the city's syna-
gogues.
Orthodox and Conservative
congregations will observe .the
following two days — Saturday
and Sunday — while Reform
temples hold, services on Satur-
day.
Listed herein, congregation by
congregation, are the individual
schedules for services in each
synagogue. Also included are the
sermon topics of the rabbis,
when available, and other per-
tinent information on the High
Holy Day season.
Beth Aaron Synagogue •
Almost 1,300 worshippers will
attend services, which for the
first Rosh Hashanah will be held
in the synagogue's completely
furnished building.
Services will begin at 6:30
p.m., today, and continue at
7:30 a.m., Saturday and Sun-
day. Rabbi Benjamin H. Gor-
relick, who will conduct all
the services, will preach Satur-
day on "Abiding Certainties in
an Uncertain World," and Sun-
day, on "God, the Source of
Real Security."
Cantor Judah Goldring and the
Synagogue choir will chant the
liturgical portions of the service.
Special junior services for
children 5 to 14 will be held in
various rooms of the school build-
ing, and will be under the direc-
tion of Sidney Noveck, Annie
Guyer and Bernard Panush,
school principal. A • group of
junior cantors and readers has
been prepared, with Martin
Guyer in charge of the older
junior services.
Cong. Shaarey Zedek
Holiday services will be held
at 6 p.m., today, and 8 a.m.,
Saturday and Sunday, in both the
main sanctuary and the social
hall.
Rabbi Morris Adler will preach
on "Buried Lives," and Rabbi
Milton Arm will speak on "The
Eternal Quest." The two rabbis
• will alternate between the two
services, and will preach iden-
tical sermons before each section.
Cantor Jacob H. Sonenklar
and the congregational choir, as-
sisted by Dan Frohman, and visit-
ing Cantor David Garen will lead
in the services. Junior Congrega-
tion services will begin at 10 a.m.,
both days, in the Kate Frank
Chapel.

Cong. Bnai Moshe
Principal and supplementary
services are planned to begin at
6:30 p.m., today, and at 7:30 a.m.
and 6:15 p.m., Saturday and Sun-
day.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman will
officiate and Cantor David
Katzman and choir, directed
by Nathan Turbow, will chant
the services., "Which Way,
Liitle Man" and "Aging or
Ripening" are Rabbi Lehr-
man's sermon topics.
Officiating at supplementary
services will be Rabbi Emanuel
Applebaum, Cantor A. A. Rosen-
feld and Emanuel Landau. On
Saturday, Rabbi Applebaum will
speak on "Searching Hearts and
Minds," while his topic for Sun-
day is "Our Father, Our King."
Three J u n i or Congregation
services are planned for children
in the 6-7, 8-12 and 13-18 groups.
All are scheduled in the school
building, under the direction of
Seymour Kaplan, Norman Mar-
kell and Simon Richardson.
Northwest Israel Synagogue
Rabbi Leo Y. Goldman will
preach Saturday on "The Mean-
ing of Rosh Hashanah" and Sun-
day on "Why to Remember" at
services beginning at 8 a.m. To-
night's service is at 6:15 p.m. -
Mr. Leiser Levin and Harry L.
Blitz will serve as cantors at
Shacharis services, and Cantor
Henry Baum will chant the Mu-
saf services. Sam S. Novetsky
will blow the Shofar.
Registration for students in the
Sunday school and the daily
Hebrew school, the latter a
branch of Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah, is currently taking place.
Temple Israel
By conducting two successive
services both in the evening and
morning, the temple will double
its seating capacity in order to
accommodate its membership.
The innovation permits 2,800
worshippers to attend the serv-
ices.
Early services are at '7 p.m.,
today, and 9 a.m. Saturday,
with late services scheduled for
9:15 p.m., today, and 11:30 a.m.,
Saturday.
Dr. Leon Fram and Rabbi M.
Robert Syme will alternate in
preaching the sermons at all ser-
vices. The Temple Israel Choral
Group of 25 voices will join
Cantor Robert S. Tulman, the
professional quartet and Karl
Haas, organist, in the liturgical
selections.
Temple Beth El
Holiday services will be con-
ducted at 7 and 9 p.m., today and
at 10 a.m., Saturday, in the main
synagogue, while supplementary
services in the Brown Memorial
Chapel are slated for 7 p.m., to-
day, and 10 a.m., Saturday.
Dr. Richard C. Hertz will
preach at early services today
and morning services in the
sanctuary, and Rabbi Minard
Klein will conduct the late eve-
ning services and in the Brown
Chapel.
Children's services in the main
temple and a ybuth service in
the Brown Chapel are planned
at 2:30 p.m., Saturday. Members
of the armed forces are admitted
to all services without admission
cards.
Adas Shalom Synagogue
Two parallel services are
planned for the adult member-
ship, in the main synagogue and
the social hall. Services begin at
6:15 p.m. today, and continue
Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
On Saturday, Rabbi Jacob E.
Segal will officiate in the social

hall, assisted by Cantor Nicholas
Fenakel and the synagogue choir,
under the direction of Harry
Siegel. His sermon topic. will be
"Every Man's Meeting at the
Summit."
The service in the main
sanctuary will be conducted
Saturday by Rabbi Moshe
Davis, provost of the Jewish
Theological Seminary, whose
sermon topic is "The Moral
Talent." Assisting him will be
Cantor David Greengarten, of
Toronto.
On Sunday, the rabbis and
cantors will exchange pulpits,
with both Rabbi Segal and
Rabbi Davis speaking on the
same topics. Special youth serv-
ices at various age levels are
planned. Sol Spiro, rabbinical
student at the Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary, will conduct the
14-18 senior youth service.
Cong. Ahavas Achim
Holiday services will be held
in the new Cambridge Synagogue
of the congregation, beginning at
6:15 p.m., today, and continuing
at 7:30 a.m., Saturday and Sun-
day.
Rabbi Jacob Chinitz will speak
on "Prayers Are Crowns for
God's Head" and "Living on
Borrowed Resources." Officiating
will be Cantor Jacob Tambor,
while Mordecai Elk blows the
Shofar and reads from the Torah.
Auxiliary services at the same
times are scheduled for the old
synagogue, and will be led by
Sachar Granott and Charles
Cottler. A junior service also
is planned at 10 a.m., both days.
Two nurseries will be available
from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, for chil-
dren under six.
