Bar Mitzvahs

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Pozen of Coral Gables, Fla., formerly of
Detroit, celebrated the Bar Mitzvah of their son, Ira, on Sept. 3
at the Beth David Synagogue in Coral Gables. Among the 56 De-
troiters who attended a dinner-dance on Sept. 4 at the Fountain-
bleau Hotel in honor of the Bar Mitzvah were Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Helf-man,•Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hellman and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Leroy Helfman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Helfman, Mr. and
Mrs. George Kollenberg and family, Mr. Charles Helfman, Mr. and
Mrs. Abe Lupovitch and family, Mr. and Mrs. Maury Schacket and
family, _Mrs. Sam Gold and daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. Garie Wolfe
and son, Burton; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Law-
rence Pozen. Mr. and Mrs. Irving Rubin, of Mt. Clemens, and Mr.
and Mrs. Dave Mulne, of Flint, also attended.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman K. Noble
announce the Bar Mitzvah of
their son, Thomas Bruce, oh Sept.
23, at Temple Israel. A Kiddush
in his honor will follow services.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Mandell and son, William J., of 20051
Freeland, returned recently from a trip to Toronto and Waterloo,
N.Y., where they were visiting their children, Dr. and Mrs. Gerald
H. Mandell and family.

In a garden ceremony Aug. 28,
in the home of the bride's par-
ents, . Suzanne Blau, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Mont Blau, of
New Castle, Pa., exchanged
marital vows with Edmund Lee
London, son of Mrs. Julius D.
London, of Detroit, and the late
Mr. London.
Dr. Iwan J. Gruen, spiritual
leader of New Castle's Temple
Israel, officiated at the ceremony.
The new Mrs. London wore a
gown of white embroidered Swiss
organdy. Her veil of tulle was
attached to a crown of organdy
flowers, centered with seed
pearls, and she carried a bou-
quet of stephanotis and sweet-
heart roses.
Mrs. Alvin Green, of Cam-
bridge, Mass., was her sister's.
only attendant. Dr. Berton Lon-
don, brother of the bridegroom,
was best man, and ushers were
Alvin Green, brother-in-law of
the bride, and Milton London,
another brother of the bride-
groom.
Following a dinner served on
the lawn of the Blau residence,
the couple left for a honeymoon
at Colorado Springs. They will
reside ih Santa Fe, N.M., where
Mr. London is an architectural
designer with W. C. Kruger and
Associates.
Mrs. London will be graduated
from the University of Michigan
in February. Mr. London is a
graduate of the U. of M. school
of architecture.
Detroiters attending the wed-
ding included Messrs. and Mes-
dames Nate Lerner, Hervey Gor-
don, Louis J. Goodman, Herbert
Schnaar, Samuel J. London
Macy Coden, Ted Coden and
Jack Krass, Mrs. Marvin Krass,

Mrs. Ann Averbach, of McQuade Ave., recently entertained
as her house guests Mr. and Mrs. Edward Joseph and Mrs. Carrie
Sousa, of Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. Averbach met the Josephs and
Mrs. Sousa during her stay in Hawaii in May while visiting her
children, A/1C Joseph and Mrs. Carolyn Hacker, currently stationed
at Hickham Air Force Base.

Twenty-three persons are now included in the Caravan to
Israel, which will embark on a two-week tour of the Jewish State
early in October. They are: Mrs. Perry P. Burnstine, Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Edelstein, of Toledo, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fleischman, Mr.
and Mrs. Edward A. Fleischman, Albert Fruman, Irwin Green,
George S. Jackson, Mrs. Sara Klivans, of Toledo, Ohio; Allen B.
Kramer, Arthur Leebove, Jack 0. Lefon, Benjamin Lieberman, Max
Osnos, Mr. and Mrs. David Safran, Alex Sklar, Mr. and Mrs. Emil
T. Stern, Jack J. Surnow and Mrs. Dorothy Weisman, of Dayton.
Members of the Caravan, organized by the Detroit Service Group of
the Jewish Welfare Federation, attended a final briefing with Max
Eisenberg, midwest district manager of Israel El Al Airlines, in
Detroit. Max Osnos is chairman of the delegation.

The bride-elect attended the
University of Michigan, and is
now a student in Wayne Univer-
sity's college of education. Mr.
Gordon, a Wayne graduate and
member of Kappa Nu fraternity,
is now attending the univer-
sity's law school.
A June 17 wedding is planned.

Mrs. Dinah Milkowsky Kaplan, a former active leader in De-
troit women's organizations, who was one of the organizers of the
Ladies' Auxiliary of the Jewish National Fund and its president for
a number of years, has returned to. Detroit after making her home
in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 19 years. She is making her home here tem-
porarily -with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Herman. Becker, of 18639
Hartwell. In Brooklyn, Mrs. Kaplan was the organizer and for 18
years the president of the Women's Aid to Israel. She also was presi-
dent of the Hebrew Ladies' Helping Hand and Relief Society of
Brooklyn, was active -in the Jewish National Fund and held offices
in several other communal organizations.

. Miss Eva Tenenbaum, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. H. Tenenbaum,
of Glendale Ave., has left for New York to resume her college
studies. Another daughter, Kaley, has returned from a three-week
vacation at a girl's camp in the Adirondack's. The Tenenbaum's son,
Israel will return here from the Cleveland Yeshivah to spend the
Sukkot holiday with his parents.
