Switzerland Bars
German Bigot
BONN. (JTA) — Swiss frontier
authorities prevented d notorious
German anti-Semitic leader from
entering Switzerland to meet
there with anti-Semitic leaders
from other countries. The German
whom the Swiss frontier guards
did not permit to cross the Swiss
frontier is Karl Meissner, chair-
man of the "German Block"
which has its headquarters in
Munich, and former member of
the Bavarian parliament.
The "German Community" a
pseudo-intellectual neo-N a z i
movement headed by the former
deputy chairman of the Christian
Social Union in .Bavaria, August
Haussleiter, will hold its national
convention at Stuttgart on Sep-
tember 3 and 4,- it was announced
today. The group adopted the
additional designation of "Na-
tional Rally" some time ago.
Karl Heinz Priester's violently
anti-Semitic "G e r in a n Social
Movement," a lunatic - f r i n g e
group that is an organic part of
the fascist "European Social
Movement," has announced that it
will hold its national convention
at Bad Homburg, in HesSe, on
October 1 and 2. It remains to
be seen, however, whether the
Social Democratic Hesse govern-
ment will allow the assembly to
take place. .
Nixon Not Aiming at
Israel-Arab Talks
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — Vice
President Richard Nixon's forth-
coming visit to Israel and the
Arab states will have no particu-
lar policy purpose other than the
development of friendship and
good-will between the U.S. and
the Middle Eastern countries, ac-
cording to diplomatic sources
here.
The official White House an-
announcement of the Presi-
dent's trip raised a question of
whether Mr. Nixon would seek
to improve relations between
Israel and the Arab states. Dip-
lomatic sources said that the
object of the tour is the pro-
motion of good-will and friend-
ship betwwn the U. S. and the
Middle Eastern region. The trip is
scheduled for late this year, prob-
ably November.
Syrian Ambassador Dr. Farid
Zeineddine predicted today that
Vice President Nixon's good-will
tour to the Arab-Israel area will
not change or ease tensions in
the Middle East because "this is
a problem where no settlement is
in view." The Syrian Ambassa-
dor expressed this belief to
reporters after:an hour's consul-
tation with State Department
officials on . the North African
crisis.

In a joint announcement this
week, Abe. Kasle, president of the
United Hebrew Schools, and
Louis Ellenbogen, president of
Beth. Abraham Synagogue, told
of the opening of the new Beth
Abraham Hebrew School branch
later this month.
The branch, to be conducted by
the schools in conjunction with
the synagogue, will meet in the
newl_y-completed building, which
wily be dedicated this Sunday,
W. 7 Mile and Greenlawn.
The opening of the Beth Abra-
ham Branch marks the contin-
uation of the policy of coopera-
tion between the United Hebrew
Schools and the synagogues of
Detroit.
The first of these partnership
relationships was the opening of
the Adas Shalom Branch six
years ago, followed by the Bnai
Moshe, Beth Aaron and Temple
Emanit-E1 in Oak Park.
The congregations use the fa-
cilities on Sundays and the He-
brew schools -during the week.
In this way, the community
avoids unnecessary waste of
funds and duplication of efforts.
The United Hebrew Schools, as
a member agency of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, has had the
cooperation and assistance of the
Federation in making possible
the necessary financial arrange-
ments with the synagogues.
Community support has en-
abled the Schools to engage full-
time Hebrew teachers, which
have improved the quality of
teaching in the classroom.

According to WHO, a poll was
recently conducted among,. the
members in the Eastern Mediter-

they would be willing to have
two subcommittees one includ-
ing Israel and the other exclud-
ing the Jewish State — meet at
the same place and on dates close
together. The - member nations—
overwhelmingly Arabic — vetoed
that suggestion:. The Arab bloc
insists that - Israel must not be

Sobeloff Opposed by
Southern Democrats
NEW YORK (JTA)—President
Eisenhower faces renewed oppo-
sition from Southern Democratic
Senators if he again appoints
Solicitor General Simon Sobeloff
as a federal judge, the New York
Post reported from Washington.
The President appointed Sobel-
off before Congress adjourned,
but Sens. Eastland (D.,Miss.) and
Johnston (D.-S.C.) were able to
block action by the Judiciary
Committee and the nomination
died. The Southerners object to
Sobeloff on the ground that he
advocated desegrating the public
schools.
