Zionist. Convention
In Brazil Breaks Up
In Factional Dispute

RIO DE JANEIRO (JTA)=A
sharp dispute between the Poale-
Zion-Hitachdut and Gene r al
Zionist factions of the United
Zionist Organization of Brazil
hass-Jaroken up the national con-
vention of the Zionist group. Of
the 150 delegates from all parts
of Brazil, about one-third were
members of the Poale Zion group.
The General Zionists were the
second largest faction here.
The two opposing factions had
clashed at last year's convention
over the question of the organ-
ization of the Jewish schools in
this country. This year, their dis-
pute was sharpened when the
General Zionists proposed that
the United Israel campaign here
be separated organizationally
from the United Zionist Organ-
ization. The Poale Zion group
opposed this move, as did all of
the other smaller parties repre-
sented here. The actual .break-up
of the convention came after a
12-hour debate at a plenary ses-
sion, which lasted through the
night.
