5 Israel Cadets Arrive in

Washington on Exchange

WASHINGTON (JTA) - Five
Israel teenage cadets arrived here
to represent their country in its
initial participation in the eight-
year-old international cadet ex-
change program.
Five American exchange cadets
arrived in Israel last Saturday for
a 30-day tour of the country. The
program, sponsored by the U. S.
Civil Air Patrol, embraces 21
friendly foreign nations and • is
dedicated to the concept of build-
ing an "international brother-
hood" of air-minded youth, The
young Israelis will tour air in-
stallations in this country.

He said his organization will
remain within the law, but, he
shouted, "this is a white man's
organization fighting for white
supremacy."

One of Eight Italian Jews
Dependent on JDC Aid

Harold Trobe, Joint Distribu-
tion Committee director for Italy,
reported that of the fewer than
35,000 Jews living in Italy today,
one out of every eight requires
some form of JDC assistance.
Noting that more than 4,500
needy men, women and children
are currently getting welfare,
feeding, educational and other
aid, the JDC field director declar-
ed that "our major responsibility
still is the 1,500 refugees from
Eastern Europe who live in Italy
today - unable to emigrate, un-
able to work legally, unable to
survive without outside aid."
A total of some 600 of the
refugees, as distinct from native
Italian Jews, are totally depen-
dent upon JDC for survival.
Funds for JDC's overseas pro-
grams are provided chiefly by
the United Jewish Appeal, with
additional funds for aid to vic-
tims of Nazism forthcoming from
the Conference on Jewish Ma-
terial . Claims Against Germany.

House, a modern hostel for scien-
tific and technical workers from
aboard engaged in developing Is-
rael's southern Negev, was dedi-
cated at Beersheba by Ben Tous-
ter, president of the United HIAS
Service, which built the apart-
ment-hotel building. Before the
ceremony, Mr. Touster was made
an honorary citizen of Beersheba.
Present at the dedication cere-
mony were Premier Moshe Shar-
ett, Ambassador Edward B. Law-
son of Israel, Rabbi Mordecai

of the United HIAS Service or-
ganization in Israel, and Mayor
A. Tuviahu of Beersheba, as well
as members of the diplomatic
corps, Israel government officials
and leaders of social and cul-
tural institutions.
The three-story concrete struc-
ture, with its swimming pools

facilities, will provide 45 modern
individual apartments for scien-
tists, engineers, teachers and
other professionals who will help
the development of the Negev.
The first tenants of HIAS House
