On display beginning today at
the DETROIT HISTORICAL
MUSEUM is the book "Daring
Davy, the Young Bear Killer; or,
The Trail of the Border Wolf,"
and you're right it is a story
about Davy L.,rockett. The book
was published on Aug. 19, 1879,
so that today marks its 76th anni-
versary. The publication was
given to Leonard N. Simons, a
vice-president of the Detroit His-
torical Commission, by Nate S.
Shapero, and Simons turned it
over to Henry D. Bowrn, Museum
diector, because he thought to-
day's youngsters would "get a
kick out of seeing that they
weren't the only ones who knew
about Davy Crockett." The book
is by Harry St. George.
