Beam Confirmation Talks
Behind the "Iron Curtain"

Seventy young members of
Temple Israel, Lawrence, L.I.,
never dreamed when they made
their confirmation addresses re-
cently that their speeches would
be beamed across the sea via
"Voice of America," the first such
use of a confirmation service on
record.
Paul Nadanyi, Chief of the U.S.
Information Agency, Hungarian
Service, happened to attend the
service, and was so impressed'
with the thoughts expressed that
he asked Rabbi Judah Cahn,
spiritual leader of the Reform
congregation, if he might use the
speeches for "Voice of America's"
Hungarian program.
The theme of the exercises was
the 300th anniversary of Jewish
settlement in America. Each con-
firmand spoke on five years of
the 300.
