Bond Women Stait
Fall Bond Campaign

A recent meeting at Rainbow
Terrace, marked the launching by
the Women's Division of its fall
drive for State of'Israel Bonds.
SiXty-four leaders heard Mrs.
Albert Farber of Philadelphia,
national CHEN chairman,' speak
-. of the necessity for strengthening
Israel through the sale of Devel-
opment Bonds.
Mrs. Farber, assisted by Mrs.
Joseph Newman, Detroit CHEN
chairman, 'presented CHEN
awards to many of the women

CHEN awards are gold charms,
each designed to represent one
of the 12 Tribes, made on the
basis of one charm for each $2,500
worth of bonds sold. An award
of the first four charms was made
to Mrs. Harry Docks, who, by
virtue of her purchase of a $10,000
bond, became a Trustee of Israel.
Plans were formulated for at-

Israel Bond conference in Wash-
ington, Sept. 10 and 11.
There will be al garden meeting
in August and a Women's Divi-
sion meeting in October.

Judge Kuper Honored

JOHANNESBURG (JTA) —
The elevation of Simon Kuper
to the bench of the South African
Supreme Court is an indication
that the "government recognizes
that devotion to Jewish causes is
completely compatible with serv-
ice to South Africa and in no way
disqualifies anyone from the
highest office in the land." Gus-
tav Saron, general secretary of
the South African Jewish Board
of Deputies, declared at a func-
tion honoring Judge Kuper.

Pennsylvania Adopts
`Watered Down' FEPC

HARRISBURG, Pa. (JTA) —
The State Senate of Pennsyl-
vania, after a stormy contro-
versy, passed a, "watered-down"
Fair Employment Practices Bill
by a vote of 44 to 5. A stronger
version of the bill had passed the
State House of Representatives
five months ago, but Republican
members of the Senate insisted
on amendments before they
would vote for the bill.
Democratic members of the
Pennsylvania Legislature fought
to keep out any provisions which
would hinder the effectiveness
of the measure, but finally yield-
ed to pressure rather than see the
FEPC bill.. die completely. As it
stands now, in addition to pro-
visions for race,- color, or na-
tional _origin, the bill provides
that workers between the ages
of 40 and .62 are not to be dis
criminated against.
