MONTREAL (JTA)—The res- ignation was announced here of Rev. Father Stephane s Valiquette from his position as director of ale Canadian Council of Chris- tians and Jews in the province of Quebec. Father Valiquette is one of the foremost Catholic authori- ties on Judaism and has de- voted nearly two decades to Catholic-Jewish goodwill work. He is considered primarily re- sponsible for the program which changed the atmosphere in Que- bec, which had- been a hot-bed of racialism and anti-Semitism. Until Father Valiquette's as- sumption of the Council post late in 1953, following a pilgrimage to Israel and Rome, the Council of Christians and „Jews did not func- tion in French Canada. No cause has been given for Father Vali- quette's resignation, but it is known that his appointment was made upon a temporary and ex- perimental basis two years ago. - ALFRED KLINE, 55, 8840 Sec- ond, -died Tuesday.
