Austria Concludes Reparation Pact Youth Leave Mexico General Zionist Party (Continued from Page 1) of the Austrian government to include a fund in the country's budget. Payment from this fund, the Chancellor emphasized, will be made to victims of Nazism in a lump sum to be decided upon in each case in accordance with the degree of the need of the appli- cant. The Austrian cabinet will now consider composition of a board of trustees of the fund. It is understood that the Jewish Committee for Claims on Austria will be consulted on persons to be named as trustees. The long drawn out negotiations between the Austrian govern- , ment and world Jewish organizations for compensation for Jewish victims of Nazism in Austria came to an end when Dr. Goldmann, accompanied by Moses W. Beckelman, head of the Jewish negotia- tions delegation, arrived. here and met with Chancellor Raab, Vice Chancellor Adolph Schaerf and Finance Minister Reinhardt Ka- mitz. Dr. Emil Maurer, president of the Federation of Jewish Com- munities of Austria, attended the meeting at which the settlement was reached. In a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Dr. Gold- mann said that the settlement is "fair and acceptable to world Jewry." Dr. Goldmann estimated that between 15,000 and 17,000 per- sons will benefit from the settlement. He said that one-third of the prospective beneficiaries now live in Israel, many thousands more in Britain and others in the United States and South America. He credited the cooperation of all Jewish groups, including those in Austria, with bringing about the settlement. He also praised the interest displayed by the Big Powers in securing a fair settlement for the Jews and lauded the indirect assistance given by the Israel Foreign Ministry and by Israel's consul here, Arie Eshel. He singled out for special praise Dr. Nehemiah Robin- son, member of the Jewish negotiating group, whose role in the negotiations he called excellent. MEXICO CITY (JTA)—A split within the General Zionist Or- ganization of Mexico deepened here with the announcement that another section of the centrist movement was joining the newly- organized Progressive Party. The announcement, made in the form of a statement published in the Yiddish press, was by the General Zionist . youth group Hanoar Hazioni, which walked out en masse to join the new group. Earlier, also in press state- ments, more than 100 members of the General Zionist Organiza- tion had announced their with- drawal and affiliation with the Progressive movement. Detroiters Badly Whipped By Long Horse Cane Attcli It happens every summer right in Detroit, right under our noses. Detroiters by the thousands are whipped into incapacitation by severe horse cane attacks. Their eyes are left puffed, their noses run and their heads ache to dis- traction. They can't work or sleep. They look for help in vain, but in Detroit there is no help to be had. The smart ones find relief for hay fever at Omena Inn, in the heart of Northern Michigan's pol- len-free area. For at Omena Inn there is no horse cane, Roman wormwood, hogweed, bitterweea, ragweed . . . or what ever name you wish to give to the plant with greenish flowers whose pol- len is a prolific source of hay -fever. "Hundreds of hay fever suffer- ers_ from every corner of the na- tion find a haven at Omena Inn every year," say Mr. and 'Mrs. Landis, owners of the famous resort on beautiful Grand Trav- erse Bay. "One of the prime considerations in selecting a site for our resort 11 years ago was its location in the center of Northern Michigan's pollen-free area." Mr. and Mrs. Landis point out that hay fever is the major blight of summer vacations. Averell Harriman, representa- tives of 17 Jewish communities in the United States a n d many Israel dignitaries. The pipeline is 66 miles long. The event was marked by color- ful mass performances of "hymn to water" in which actors from all,. Israel theaters, assisted by choirs and dancing groups, par- ticipated. The festive ceremony took place at sources of the Yar- kon river near Rosh Hayin. The summit of the festivity was reached when Abraham Harzfeld, veteran Israel farmer who de- voted most of his life to the development of Jewish agricul- ture in Palestine under the Brit- ish mandate, was given the honor to push the button operating the pumping stations, thereby allow- ing waters of Yarkon's wells. to flow into the pipe line. The new water line will con- nect about 200 settlements. It constitutes the first half of the 135-mile pipe line from north of Tel Aviv along the coastal area to the arid Negev.
