Ready by Holidays

Louis Ellenbogen, president of
Cong. Beth Abraham, this week
announced that the new syna-
gogue and center being built by
the congregation on W. 7 Mile
Rd. would be completed in time
for High Holy Day services this
fall.
Reservations for holiday seat-
ing in the main synagogue and
auxiliary services in the social
hall will begin at 7 p.m., Tues-
day, in the lobby of the new
building, which is now nearing
completion.
The synagogue seating and
membership committees will be
on duty every week day eve-
ning and from 2 to 10 p.m., Sun-
days. Rabbi Israel I. Halpern,
assisted by leading cantors and
choirs, will officiate at all serv-
ices.
Shabsai Ackerman, chief can-
tor of the Great Synagogue in
Tel Aviv, will be guest cantor
at sabbath services at 7:30 p.m.,
July 29, -and 8:30 a.m., July 30,
in the old building, Linwood
and Fullerton.
Cantor Ackerman will be as-
sisted by a local choir. For in-

The Joint Distribution Commit-
tee announces a grant of $500,000
over a five-year period for the
development of social work train-
ing facilities in the state of Israel.
The grant, according to Edward
M. M. Warburg, JDC chairman,
is to be made in commemoration
of the completion of 40 .years of
JDC relief, reconstruction and
resettlement activity- in behalf of
needy Jews overseas.
