Bormans Honored on Eve of Israel Visit

OLD FORTRESS SURROUNDING TIBERIAS: Built by the crusaders in the twelfth century,
the fortress has massive walls, round towers and underground corridors. Like many other ancient
landmarks in the country, the fortress felt the heavy brunt of war during Israel's war of liberation.

On the eve of their departure
for a several weeks' visit in Is-
ra.el. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bor-
man and their son, Paul, were
honored at a dinner at the
Sheraton Cadillac Hotel, June
23. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Klein Were
the hosts to 100 guests.
In attendance were a number
of Detroit's most distinguished
leaders with whom the Bormans
and the Kleins have worked in
Allied Jewish Campaigns.
Mr. Klein commended Mr.
Borman fol. his communal ef-
forts. Program speakers includ-
ed Samuel Rubiner, Judge Theo-
dore Levin, Joseph Holtzman,
Irving Blumberg, Abe Kasle,
Murray Rosenthal, Maurice Se-
ligman, Morris Tulepman and

Al Borman. 13ob Hall was toast-
master,
The well-known vaudevillian
and radio entertainer, Jack
Hurlbut, was featured on the
program, in addition to instru-
mental music and songs by a
girls' trio.

One-Man Drive Nets $70,600 for Israel. Bonds

burgh, prominent attorney and
civic leader, completed a unique
one-man campaign to s ell
$70,000 in State of Israel Devel-
opment Bonds by the time of his
70th birthday on July 4.
Mr. Brasley, who is the owner
of more than $125,000 in Israel
bonds, launched his personal

of his one-man effort were first
announced at a recent dinner
held. in Pittsburgh to observe
Israel's seventh anniversary.

ported that he had already sold
$60,000 in $1,000 Israel Bonds to
individuals and concerns,

Six members of Detroit Work-
men's Circle Branches were in
the state capitol at Lansing on
June 29 to witness Gov. Williams
sign the Fair Employment Prac-
tices Bill into law.
Representatives of the nine
11local branches who contributed
Lo the work of the Michigan Co-
lordinating Council for FEPC in-
cluded Mrs. Betty Meltzer, Rob-
ert Greene, Mrs. Sophie Shifrin,
Saul Maltz, Ben Rubinger and
Sam Levin. A reception followed
the signing.
At 9 p.m., today, Branch 460
will meet at the home of Mrs.
Ruth Gottfurcht, 18260 Green-
lawn. A social hour will follow.
Branch 111 will hold an all-
day indoor picnic on Sunday, in
i the Circle Center, 11529 Lin-
wood. Dinners will be served
from 1 p.m. Proceeds will go to
support two children adopted by
the branch who live at the Via-
deck H'6me of the Jewish Labor
Committee in France, states Alex
Levitt, chairman.

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—More than
.5,000 new immigrants have en-
tered Israel since last August,
'nd the number of immigrants
will rise to 30,000 by August, 1955,
it was disclosed here by Dr.
Giora Josephtal, treasurer of the
Jewish Agency. Since the estab-
lishment of the state, he added,
