Sharon Robinson and John
Harley Winkelman exchanged
marital vows in a ceremony per-
formed June 26 by Rabbis Mor-
ris Adler and Richard C. Hertz
at the Etotel Statler.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Robinson, of
Merton Rd. The bridegroom's
parents are the Leon G. Winkel-
mans, of Fairfield Ave.
The new Mrs. Winkelman
chose a gown of imported Ita-
lian silk which ended in a sweep
train. Her veil of fingertip illu-
sion fell from a tiered. crown of
crystal pailettes and pearls. She
carried phaelanopsis orchids on
a Bible belonging to her patern-
al grandmother.
Mrs. Stanley J. Winkelman at-
tended the bride as matron of
honor, and Sally Ginsberg was
her maid of honor. Andra Win-
kelman and Marjory . Winkel-
man, nieces of the bridegroom
were junior bridesmaids.
Frederick R. Winkelman, the
bridegroom's • twin' brother, was
his best man, and ushers were
Henry R. Winkelman and Stan-
ley J. Winkelman, his brothers,
and Jay H. Robinson, the bride's
brother.
Following the ceremony a re-
ception honored the bridal cou-
ple in the Statler's Wayne
Room. After a wedding trip to
Bermuda, Mr. and Mrs. Winkel-
man will take up residence in
Forest Hills, N.Y.

Landsmanshaften
To Plant Forest
Of 30,000 Trees

As an expression of its devo-
tion to the cause of the Jewish
National Fund, the Landsman-
shaften Council of Detroit last
week approved the planting of
a forest of 30,000 trees in Israel,
through - JNF.
The decision to plant the trees
was reached in a discussion on
how to strengthen the bonds be-
tween Landsmanshaften a n d
JNF, at a meeting of the Lands-
manshaften Council on June 28.
William Hordes, president of
the JNF local board, opened the
discussion with an outline of
JNF's program and its impor-
tance to Israel's future. The
Council, presided over by Mor-
ris Malin, president, pledged full
support to JNF.
The Council agreed also to is-
sue a statement to all affiliated
societies to increase their ef-
forts for JNF, and that each
group appoint a representative
to the JNF Council.
The forest project will • get
underway with a concerted ef-
fort in the fall. Meanwhile,
plans will be worked out by the
membership to effectively reach
the goal of 30,000 trees.

MOGEN ABRAHAM MEN'S
CLUB will hold its weekly min-
yan service, breakfast and study
hour at 9 a.m., Sunday, in the
synagogue. Meeting at 8:30 p.m.,
Monday, in the Yeshivah library,
members will discuss the pro-
phecies of Samuel.

St. Francis De Salle Orphanage
to Kiddieland for the day. Pau-
line Gutfriend, chairman, was
assisted in planning the pro-

Shamofsky, Rose Cowan, Mae
Ginsberg and Ethel Shear.

At a recent meeting of Lt.
ELI LEVIN AUXILIARY, three
new officers were installed and
six new members obligated.
Sarah Snyder was appointed
child welfare Chairman, and
Florence Marshall was named
program chairman. The group
will meet Tuesday evening, in
the Memorial Home for a pro-
gram of games and refrshments.

Sephardic Rites Join
Couple in Marriage

Summer vacations for service-
men and hospitalized veterans
are being arranged by the De-
partment of Michigan Ladies
Auxiliary, Jewish War Veterans,.
it is announced this week by
Mrs. Claire Spolan, president.
Following a picnic at Ken-
sington Park, held last week for
a group of patients from Ann
Arbor Veterans Hospital, the
JWVA is also planning 'a carni-
val in the early part of this
month on the grounds of Dear-
born Veterans Hospital.
The women hold regularly
scheduled hospital parties, visit
the USO and plan functions at
the Fort Wayne Induction Cen-
ter - throughout the summer
months.

MRS. MARCEL BEHAR

The colorful rituals of Sep-
hardic Jewish tradition sur-
rounded the candlelight cere-
mony on June 28 which united
in marriage Shirley Chicorel and
Marcel Behar. Dr. Richard C.
Hertz officiated at the wedding
which was performed before a
flower-decorated altar at Elm-
wood Casino.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Chicorel, of
17214 Wildemere. The bride-,
groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Behar came here from
Alexandria, Egypt, for the wed-
ding, which was an outstanding
social event of the year for the
Sephardic Community of De-
troit.
Attired in a pure white floor
length gown, the bride was at-
tended by •Mrs. Esther Sibrack,
her sister, and Mrs. Norbert
Neunon, the bridegroom's sister
as matrons of honor, and Lillian
Cicurel, cousin of the bride, was
maid of honor. Gail and Hinda
Chicorel, the bride's nieces, were
bridesmaids, and - Shelly and
Marylin Chicorel, also nieces,
were flower girls.
Norbert Nemon, the bride-
groom's brother-in-law, was his
best man, and ushers were Max,
Albert and David Chicorel, the
bride's brothers, and Harvey Si-
brack, her brother-in-law. Larry
and Gerald Sibrack, her neph-
ews, were junior ushers, and
Marc Chicorel, her nephew, was
ring bearer. •
The new Mrs. Behar attended
Wayne University. She has been
secretary of the Sephardic Com-
munity of Detroit. Her husband
is a graduate of Birmingham
University, England, and is a
mechanical and designing en-
gineer.
- Following the • ceremony, a
dinner was held for the newly-
wed8 in the Elmwood dining
room, after which they . left for
a honeymoon in Quebec. They
will take up residence in Tor-
onto.

A proposal that Tisha b'Ab be
converted into an annual one-
day fast as a means of arousing
the conscience of mankind
against war, anti-Semitism, and
the destruction of Jewish life
behind the Iron Curtain, is made
by ,Dr. Mordecai M. Kaplan in
the July issue of National Jewish
Monthly, published by Bnai
Tisha b'Ab occurs this year on
July 28.
In his article, Dr. Kaplan ex-
plains that Tisha b'Ab should
not be dropped from the Jewish
calendar because the establish-
ment of the State of Israel has
not, even in the secular sense,
fulfilled the traditional Messia-
nic hope, but has only given the
